Username and PMs

I was asked to PM another poster recently. However, when I went to write the PM, the ‘send’ box had my previous/regular username showing. I didn’t want to reveal that name, so didn’t try and send a PM.

Is this how it works? How would I have been able to send a PM using this name, instead of my regular one?

I don’t know but I changed my username this week and my old name was still being used after the change. I’m using the apple app. There are so many issues with it I’m not surprised by anything anymore.

You don’t really ‘change username’, rather you can add alternatives. It should be possible to use these when posting on a new thread but (to prevent sockpuppeting), if you’ve already posted on a thread you have to continue with the same name on it. If that’s what you’re seeing it’s deliberate feature not a bug.

No @ErrolTheDragon - you misunderstand me. It’s not about posting - I understand how all that works. It’s about trying to send a PM in the name I had changed to, when in the ‘send’ box for PMs it was showing my previous/regular name. I wanted the PM to come from the name I had posted in.

I should add, I’m not using the app - I’m using a laptop and the desktop site, if that makes any difference.

I was responding to the other poster which wasn’t about PMs.

I know that. That’s not what happened.

Log in as the username you want to send it from. You have to go into your settings I think and change it there then it'll be your default (which you can overwrite on posts).

Not sure if you've tried that yet OP.

Hello @MNChiefInspectorThreadPolice you will be able to change the sending username in PMs provided it's a username you already have. Let us know if you need more help.
