So many AI or bot replies in threads

ReacherOMGyes · 01/05/2025 11:11

There seems to be so many threads with replies that are just parroted responses of earlier ones. I mean posts that can be a bit ambiguous and people can fall either way in their lines of thinking, so many almost identical non responses.

And threads that you think are going a certain way (affair, LTB etc) seem to then have a load of similar responses going totally opposite direction.

There's one thread that a poster has put about her 'DF' when she likely means DP or DH but it's taken several posts before anyone has even questioned it.

It just seems posts are not being replied to by real people quite often, there's just something "off" about so many replies

I’m beginning to think that the majority of threads are just one person talking to themselves under different usernames

Unless you have completely different accounts I don't think you can

There’s no question in my mind that some posts are set up with a particular commercial or political interest in mind, and I don’t mean punters like us.

Agreed. Too many similar types of posts about “social issues” rather than real life experiences, all started with user names like BiscuitFairyChimpanzee.

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter there definitely are a few of them, but thats not what I mean. Hard to explain I suppose it's just what I'm noticing.

A post the other day the OPs opening line literally said 'I've posted about this before' and 5 of the first dozen or so replies were along the lines of 'have you posted about this before?'

Hard to believe there so many people who recognised the post content but failed to read the bit about posting before. Just seems like the work of bots or AI

If you read threads about MN on other sites you will see some people saying they have several accounts on here

Posters are really bad at reading posts.
How many times do you see it ?
Eg My DD is 5 , reply ‘how old is your DD’ ?
Eg I work FT , reply ‘do you work’ ?

Hello @ReacherOMGyes it's usually more likely to be a case of people not reading the OP properly. We have rules around multiple accounts and trolling - anything suspicious gets looked into quickly by our moderation team and, where necessary, removed. But Mumsnet’s a big site with a lot of posters, and it’s not unusual to see similar replies crop up on the same thread. From our experience these are real people responding in good faith.

We’re always happy to take a closer look at a particular thread or poster if you think something’s really off. Thanks again.
