Zombie threads solution?

randomchap · 25/04/2025 11:04

Would it be possible to only allow the op to post in threads that haven't been posted for a few months. This way if the op has an update then the thread can be revived but it'll stop zombie threads clogging up the place?

Or could this stop people asking for help and advice on threads that are already there?

Hi @randomchap

Thanks for starting this thread. This is something that comes up from time to time and we've discussed at MNHQ in the past, so you definitely aren't the only one to express this opinion.

Whenever it's been raised previously we've come to the conclusion that on balance there's more to be lost than gained in locking old threads.

Of course, there are also times when old threads are revived by accident or for other nefarious purposes (usually spam). If you come across a thread where there's obvious confusion about the dates, or it's clear that it would be better left in the past, do hit the report button and if necessary we can close a thread to new posts.

Thanks again.
