Please can you remove me from infinite scroll and fix issues

The test group with infinite scroll is causing no end of issues for me. It's glitchy, and I also can't click "see all" when I read updates from the OP.

Please can I have pages back and please can the see all issue be fixed?

Thank you!

Hi OP,

Sorry to hear about the issues and no problem - we're still in the process of making everything a lot smoother, so we're hoping this won't take long. We'll remove you shortly.

Can you remove me too? I requested this previously but now I am back to infinite scroll

HebeMumsnet · 21/12/2025 21:22

Evening, everyone. As BeckyAMumsnet mentioned above, we've now made a change so that you can switch out of infinite scroll yourself in Settings. Just shout if you can't find the right toggles when you're in there.

yophoriac25 · 30/12/2025 07:55

Brilliant thank you @HebeMumsnet - I wasn't part of the introductory group so saw this thread in active topocs but didn't know what it was about. Only started seeing infinite scroll threads in the last few days and have hated it but only just got around to coming here to moan about it and find that you have fixed it! Result! Happy new year.

In case future people coming to this thread need more detailed guidance for the steps needed to turn it off:

can anyone help, I can't find where to turn it off in Talk settings.

yophoriac25 · 20/01/2026 00:01

@skyeisthelimit when you click on Talk Settings do you not see an option to select "on threads show posts per thread () all on one page () split into pages"

  • selecting "split into pages" is the option you need.

It's completely counter intuitive to have to select "split into pages" in order to be able to see all posts on one page!

I don't understand why there isn't just a "turn off infinite scroll" option Hmm

I don't understand what you mean. The infinite scroll is having posts all on one page that you then have to scroll through to get to post number 478 of a 750-post thread. With "split into pages" and 100 posts per page, you get to post 478 by going to page 5. What do you think should happen when you want to navigate to somewhere in the middle of a long thread?

You used to be able to see all posts by scrolliing. And if you searched within a thread you could find things. Now with the stupid infinite scroll where only about 25 posts appear at a time, you can only search within posts that are actually 'open'/displayed. And if you scroll a little too fast, it jumps to the end. It was far smoother just to have the whole thread displayed, not to have to go through multiple pages. You could know there was a post ar X time in a thread and whizz back to it, now you need to know what post number it was (or which page). This version, it is incredibly easy to miss whole chunks of a thread and not see that things have moved on.

In summary, infinite scroll is shit. I asked months ago to be removed and am still stuck in it.

yophoriac25 · 20/01/2026 09:36

Ah ok. I understand now. In that case you just need one more step for your solution - under the 'split into pages' option you can choose 1000 posts per page and then the whole thread loads every time. That would be very annoying and undesirable for anyone with a slow connection, and will slow everything down when all you want to do is read the latest updates rather than the whole history of the thread, but each to their own.

You obviously haven't been around long enough to know that in the past, you could choose how you viewed threads by selecting either "pages" which split the thread into pages (with, if I remember correctly, a max of 100 posts per page), or "see all posts" which showed all posts (up to 1000 as per the thread post limit) on a thread.

Lots of posters prefer to have all 1000 posts on a thread showing on the same page. For a start it enables the use of "find in page" which is very helpful when trying to find specific posts or keywords. It's also really handy to be able to load up a few long threads before going into a place with no signal, ie the underground.

When the infinite scroll was introduced, it was applied automatically to the "see all posts" setting, without anyone being asked if they actually wanted this. So for the many many MN users who had the "see all posts" setting, it is indeed completely counter intuitive to have to change that setting to "split into pages" and then set that to 1000 posts per page. It's essentially asking us to set the opposite settings to achieve the same effect, but without anyone being told this was what they had to do!

BeansAndNoodles · 20/01/2026 10:31

And the infinite scroll doesn't show "all posts on one page" - it shows what, 25 of them at a time? It's a massive ballache and made MN unusable for me and many others!

thank you , yes, have found it now, I didn't realise that was the setting, I was looking for something that mentioned scrolling.

It was taking so long to get to the end of the posts, see more , see more, and driving me crazy. I just want to be able to click on the next page, or page 5 or whatever.

All fixed now, thank you.

MN if it aint broke, dont fix it

yophoriac25 · 20/01/2026 14:01

Thanks @BeansAndNoodles - that makes sense. I've been a regular on mumsnet since about 2004 (an occasional lurker before then, I remember making my first-ever post during a pregnancy scare) but I am a creature of habit and the only change I have ever made to my view settings was, iirc, back when it became possible to choose your own number of posts per page - I have a feeling it was universally 20 posts a page originally and I was happy when I could choose it to be 100 but I never wanted to have 1000 loading at once so the changes to how that worked bypassed me completely. I can see how counterintuitive it is now you've put it in context though. Some update a few weeks ago put everyone onto the infinite scroll even if their previous choice had been 100 posts per page but happily this thread helped me to put things back how they ought to be.
