How do I stop these Mumsnet pop ups on my (work!) laptop :(

I don't know how I enabled these.
How do I disable as I'm worried they'll pop up when I'm presenting something at work?
Thanks

Does logging out help?

CiscoTS · 17/04/2025 13:46

Meant to say; it might stop them popping up if you’re logged out?

I’ve blocked pop ups but that’s on my phone.

MyHipHurty · 17/04/2025 13:49

I guess I could logout but I'd still like to know how to stop them.

Don’t have the Mumsnet app or website on your work laptop!

Yes, that would be good! I never use MN on anything but my phone so had no idea these things happened.

I don't get pop-ups. Which browser are you using? I use Brave.

MyHipHurty · 25/04/2025 12:50

The browser I'm using is Chrome.
I've tried logging out but still getting the pop ups :(

Do you have notifications on for the site?

Click the settings button to the left of the address bar and make sure notifications is toggled off.

[double post]

MyHipHurty · 25/04/2025 12:53

Is there a way of tagging Mumsnet site admin?
I thought posting here would get a response from Mumsnet but nothing so far!

It’s not really a MN issue as such, you’ve just enabled notifications on Chrome for the site and need to turn them off. It’s your Chrome settings. Have you done the steps linked above by me and another poster to disable them?

MagpiePi · 25/04/2025 13:14

I’ve started using DuckDuckGo for MN as you don’t get any ads, pop ups or requests to turn off your ad blocker every time you go to a new page.

Ilovemyshed · 25/04/2025 13:23

Go into Windows Settings/ System/ Notifications and change preferences by app - ie turn off banners.

Hi @MyHipHurty

So sorry for the delay here.

From the looks of it, these are Chrome notifications coming through as Windows notifications. Below are a couple of articles that may help you to switch these notifications off -

Hope that helps - do let us know how you get on.

If you de-select "watch this thread" at the bottom of the page will it also stop you receiving replies or reactions to posts you've made. I don't want to do that, but I do want to stop updates on every thread I've read. I'm on a laptop.

BertieBotts · 25/04/2025 14:35

I think @feelinghopeless2025 has it right. It's a little circle at the left end of the address bar which looks like two sideways lollipops (I think it's supposed to be sliders!) If I click that, it comes up with a little menu showing some options, one of which is notifications.

I don't allow any websites to send me notifications and mine are off. Can't understand why anyone would allow it! Seems like the most annoying thing ever. I can easily check my notifications on the site when I choose to.

MyHipHurty · 25/04/2025 15:46

Thanks all.
Notifications was turned on so I have switched off as per @feelinghopeless2025 instructed.

Re pop ups/notifications
I noticed I received mine via Firefox (not the app).
So went to Firefox notifications exceptions & blocked from there 🙃
