Can’t copy and paste within the app anymore

This is really annoying me! I often highlight text and use the ‘look up’ function to either find out what a word means, or, more often, to get further information about a topic mentioned. I have no idea why anyone would think that stopping this function would be an improvement…

Yep add me to the list of annoyed app users who want to be able to copy, paste and generally interact with the text of a previous post. I’ve resorted to doing a screenshot on my phone and then selecting the text from the image! Mad.

Me too! I love the ‘look up’ function like PP mentions. I used to keep a list of the words I looked up that were interesting/remarkable/really fitting in the hope of trying to include them into my own very limited vocabulary.

Yes I can't copy and paste either. I'm also unable to click a link. This definitely worked a couple of days ago. Not sure if that's just me and an issue with my phone.

Yeah this is bugging me as well. I can’t imagine MNHQ meant to do this so I’m assuming it’ll be fixed.

Agreed. I like to copy and paste a portion of what someone has said to highlight in bold when I reply to a comment. Now I have to quote the whole post unnecessarily.

I tried to ask about this before! Yes- I have the same problem. I’m put off responding sometimes because I only want to refer to one part of a post-not the whole thing. Particularly if it’s long.

And now for reasons unknown the mobile site will only allow you to highlight one word. How did that happen??

@JaneJeffer The highlight issue with the mobile site doesn't sound right though. Is it still happening this morning? And has anyone else experienced this? If so, could you let us know what device and browser you're using? Thank you.

So what’s happening now is that there’s an arrow on the left side of the screen and when you get to the end of the line you’re trying to highlight it boots you off the thread completely.

I’m on the app, on an iPhone, and can’t select text at all - literally nothing happens if I hold my finger on the text.

I think that's what HebeMN is saying will be sorted out soon.

I'm no software engineer, but I do wonder who thought it was a good idea to remove that functionality.

@HebeMumsnetany word on the copy and paste? Just now it let me copy a few words but when I went to paste them it booted me off the thread. Fed up trying to MN these days because everything is so problematic.

And as I mentioned on the other thread the @ causes the following word to get mashed into the username as you can see in my previous post.
