iPhone new app - refresh 'active' 'watching' 'I'm on'

It used to be that if I open the App, clicked on Active, I would be able to refresh the thread list by swiping down. That no longer works and you have to scroll up and up and up to get to the top, then the swipe down refresh works.

Something like that - I only know that I was able to read MN while brushing my teeth and easily navigate with just my left hand. I can't do that now. Too much scrolling.

I wonder - did MN gets current users to test the new App?

That’s one of my main bugbears too.

and you can’t access bookmark, etc with a swipe, you have to scroll up to find the three dots and do it that way.

why update an app and remove convenience? Very annoying!

I can still do that with the new app!

I actually like it from the brief moment I’ve used it this morning. Polls show up, edit buttons! This is great and loooooong overdue

and the posting twice is good as it gives you a chance to proof read and edit without “edited post” showing up. I used to post quickly, then re-read it and realise there was a typo, then have to go on the browser, find the bloody thread and edit 😂

How @TY78910? There’s no swipe just three dots at the side.

also when I used @ just now it disappeared after I used the question mark afterwards and I had to redo but it added extra spaces

no capitals is annoying and not being able to highlight text to look something up or c&p is very annoying too

And just to make sure I’ve understood properly, @rosemarble — you would select Active in the bottom navigation to jump back to the top of the list of active threads, so you could then refresh it easily by dragging down?

@SargeMimpson, we added the ability to preview posts to bring the app in line with our website and because it was requested by users. If you’d rather not see a preview of your post before submitting, you can switch this off by changing the toggle at the bottom of the preview page or by heading to your Talk settings in the app and toggling off the Post previews option.

There’s now a review post step, like in the browser but I think you can turn it off. I’ve not tried it but there’s a ‘don’t show me post previews’ button - if you’ve got that what does it do?

I pull down the list when it’s at the top and it refreshes like in the screenshot. Is that what you mean?

it used to be that when you opened the App, clicked on Active it would take you to the first/top thread, from there you swipe down to refresh. Now when you press Active, it takes you to where you were (I think), and…I don’t know, I’ll have to pay more attention when I next do it

Also I hate that the Active page now goes on and on and on and on and on. I used to “allow” myself the time it takes to scroll though active and read a few threads as a reward for Getting Stuff Done. Now this could take me an eternity to do!

all feels very clunky

yes, I think that’s what I did, but I’m not sure now. It became an automatic action!

I’m using an iPhone and can’t refresh active threads within the app at all. I have to close the app and re-open it to refresh them. It’s frustrating.

it’s also frustrating that if you use the filter button to see just the OPs posts; there no longer appears to be a function to show them in reverse order.

MN did get current users to test the app. I was one of them.

Anyone was welcome to try it. It was discussed on here occasionally.

I really didn’t see any issues with it, apart from not being able to access PMs on it still.

Thank you for taking the time to test.
Maybe they need to get more people to do so, based on the number of complaints they've received.

Morning, everyone,

There's no news on this just yet, but it is still on our list of things to fix. We'll update as soon as there's something to tell you.

@SargeMimpson We just spotted that we didn't answer one of your earlier questions re: not being able to access bookmark etc with a swipe and needing to scoll to find the three dots to open the menu. You might have missed this but we've posted about this issue on the main thread about the new app. Bringing the swipe functionality back isn't as simple as it seems but we're reviewing this and it's on our list to look into further. In the meantime we've added the ability to press and hold on threads and posts. When you press and hold on a thread or a post, the menu for that thread or post should open. This means you don't have to use the three dots if you don't want to. Hope that helps.
