I have asked for this too, via the new app feedback. I use dark mode most of the time on other apps. Not having dark mode means I tend to stay away from Mumsnet in the night (although that may not actually be a bad thing!)

Agree. It seems odd not to have a dark mode, pretty much every other app I use has one, but MN tech is dated and full of holes as ever.

what’s the advantage of the app? I’ve never understood

At the moment, no ads! And the website used to be unusable for me when on my phone - lots of crashes which meant I was always losing my place on long threads.
For years I've used app on phone and website on PC.

i didn’t know that. I prefer the look of the website.
I did have to switch to the app when my phone was too old and I couldn’t post.

Hi everyone - thanks so much for testing the new app and giving your feedback. Right now, it doesn't have a dark mode but it's on our list of things to add in the future. We'll of course keep you posted on this and any new features.

The answer to every MN tech query seems to be “it's on our list of things to add in the future”, @BeckyAMumsnet. Dark mode is a pretty basic option that is usually incorporated as standard, isn’t it?

@OldChairMan we know dark mode is a common feature and it’s something we’d like to offer. Our focus has been on getting the updated app ready to launch after a huge rebuild, but now that it’s nearly there, we’ll be looking at what’s next, including features like this.
