Thread Gallery doesn't stay collapsed

Is there any chance that once you've collapsed the Thread Gallery, it could stay collapsed when you navigate away and then return? Or better still, have a setting to have it collapsed (or not) by default on all threads it appears on?

The thread gallery is open on the first page but then is closed on subsequent pages and we're finding that works for the majority so we've no current plans to change it. However, we will make a note of your thoughts about it for when we're considering any future changes.
