Deleted threads

It seems threads are more often deleted nowadays for minor reasons or at OPs request instead of say MN commenting on the thread first.
A few times in the past I requested a thread to be deleted due to risk of outing or unpleasant input but was told no we can't do that just because you have asked. Has policy changed a bit?

It's changed massively in the last couple of years but I think the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction now.

The amount of deletions for 'privacy reasons' are ridiculous.

Especially when the OP has name changed anyway and knows full well they've chosen to post on a public site.
