I would like to know if mumsnet has a problem with AI coming in to threats to disrupt and influence people's opnions on particularly politics. I know it happens and mumsnet is a area of Internet that is used. There seems to be a much higher number of musk, Robinson, farage loving posts much more than I've ever seen on the years I've been here . I don't belive they all are, but is this something that is a of a concern or are you OK with the traffic?

Hi @chicken2015 as ever, we'd ask you to please report any threads or posts (or posters!) that are making you suspicious. We're always happy to check things out behind the scenes, and if we're not convinced that someone is posting in good faith we'll take the necessary action behind the scenes.

I dont nessasery mean on an individual level, is there a whole network strategy that can detect when ai or bots are using mumsnet I mean like a technical thing that goes on behind the scenes?

Does mumsnet have policy on how to combat influtration of outside entries ? Is it something that they even care or think about?

Or is it just a case of traffic is traffic regardless of if its real people or not. ?

I'm interested in this. Is MNHQ looking at the bigger picture overall, rather than solely adjudicating individual threads on a case-by-case basis?

And how can we help with a potential 'bigger picture' project?

chicken2015 · 10/01/2025 13:09

Where there is a company that rely on humans to interact with each other , I wanted to know if computer AI or bots are here with us? Like is the place I'm spending my time on is it all human? Or has ai or bots among us. Do u have the technology to even know this? I dont want to know what ur doing I wanted to know if u know .

I'm alarmed at the amount of bot hunting that goes on, where posters are accused of being bots, really it's the same as troll hunting, I do report but loads just keep popping up

Would u be alarmed if u found out u Interact with computer generated AI and not another human?
A troll is someone human making up crap I could see how that would be irating to another person but AI is like a whole another mass of problem!

I am interested too. My interest is different though. I’m amazed at people’s conviction that they are right and most people agree with them.

Brexit- everyone thought they were right and only idiots disagree. But people voted as they did for reasons that made good sense to them- with a pretty equal divide.

There are plenty of law abiding, tax paying, community minded people who value free speech, dislike ‘woke’ attitudes and think a man like Musk is allowed to express his opinions if he wants.

I’m left leaning and find Farage a morally bankrupt creep. I know lots who don’t agree though. I don't think they’re all bots and AI!

So I’d be interested to know!

But is it just posters you disagree with that you think are bots and AI

BobnLen · 10/01/2025 13:25

It's a bit tiresome on threads when there are constant bot hunters and then reporting them and I know other posters comment as well,

So if they are AI or bots and u agree with them does that mean you would prefer they stay and mumsnet do nothing about it?

It’s endless and on every thread from Labour

Op there are different views in the public domain and you’re going to see them on a public site

No, they are asking whether you see bots and AI posting that agree with you.

Or Is it only the posts you don’t like that you think are bots?

I’m interested too. I suspect we align politically but I know lots of people who agree with your ‘bots and AI’.

It's not about different views. I'm asking a vald question I want to know if I'm on a forum talking to other humans am I actuallu spending my time talking to real humans or am I talking to computer generated ai? It's a fair question. Ai has exploded in last year. It's very easy to talk to ai on chatgpt and I can image its very easy to put them on here and other site where people talk to other people. What's crazy is people arguing that It must be because I don't like the view! Technology is changing all the time AI is being used in all areas , its fair to ask how much is being used here if any. Or should we not ask because they are agreeing Predominantly with ur views!!

I report anything I am not happy with so would report any poster I suspected was a bot or AI like I do the bot hunters, there is no need to mention it on the thread just report if you aren't happy with something

So are you reporting these suspect posters as you should.

MadeofCoffee · 10/01/2025 13:43

Yes I'm with you OP. In ways I'm imagining there will be some form of malware defence that can detect whether something is generated through AI. No idea if already available out there but I expect there will be soon!

But it's not about individual posts . Im aware i can report. I want to know as a company does mumsnet know that there are bots on here and are they OK with it. Whatever the bot says I don't want to spend my time talking to a computer generated AI pretending to be a human. I want humans and if they disagree with me then great at least its a real conversation. I'm honestly confused as to why people are not wanting to know!

It’s fine to ask. And you should refine your question and report your post if you want more information- or reply to the comment from MNHQ on this thread, or report that comment and ask the question in your report.

The point PPs are making is that your original post suggested that you are surprised by the number of posts expressing an opinion you don’t like. Do you think the boys are only working on one side?

They are saying tell MN when you think there’s a bot. That’s all. That’s in addition to this conversation.

They are asking not to accuse other posters of being bots as it derails the conversation.

Polling and support for Labour is about the same as Reform

Plus Labour has tanked generally and there’s a lot of criticism off mn

Why wouldn’t that be reflected on posts on here?
