Can someone please do something about the Elon Musk commentary plaguing the boards recently? Can they at least be moved to the political board, because that's what he's trying to meddle in. Yes we can hide the threads but they just keep popping up and it's bloody irritating.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi OP

Thanks for the suggestion. We're happy to review threads on a case-by-case basis, but ultimately, Mumsnetters will want to discuss developing stories in this way. Especially if they're getting a lot news coverage.

Please remember that you can hide threads individually. If you see a thread and think it's in an incorrect topic, do report it to us so we can take a look.

nonbinaryfinery · 07/01/2025 21:19

Nobody ever moves them when they get reported.

The problem is that they’re not being monitored, it seems, until people put in countless reports. There’s some absolute nut jobs on there and they’re being allowed to spout utter shit for pages and pages and thread after thread.

ForPearlViper · 07/01/2025 21:43

I would strongly suggest Mumsnet closely monitors these threads and other recent ones relating to political issues. I have found some of the comments that have been allowed on these threads astounding especially when compared to what is deleted on other more innocuous threads. I have wondered if I was accidently in the Daily Mail comments.

I appreciate that Mumsnet wants 'healthy' debate. I also appreciate that Mumsnet wants lots of engagement to attract advertisers. However, I think the Mumsnet founders (and PR advisers), given their stated values, would not be happy having to defend why they allowed the influx of a particular type of discourse on this forum when the wider media notices - which it will as it crawls all over the site for content.

gamerchick · 07/01/2025 21:46

Putting how irritating the sheer amount of them are to one side. Those threads are seriously weird.

nonbinaryfinery · 07/01/2025 23:52

I reported another one earlier as suggested, and I got a uniform response. It's ridiculous.

I agree with things being ignored , I’ve reported threads for some pretty overt racism for instance and haven’t so much as received a response from MNHQ. It’s becoming very toxic.

My experience is that much less is being deleted than even a year or 18 months ago.

Another vote for this post too btw. I've only dipped into the Musk threads but they're awful and not in keeping with the typical vibe on here which is suspicious in itself.

HebeMumsnet · 08/01/2025 09:47

Hi again everyone. As we've said, please do report any threads to us via the report button that you have concerns about. We'll obviously keep an eye out on this issue, but what we really need is to see each thread itself in order to make a decision on whether to move, delete or leave it where it is.

We're also quite concerned to see @Igotjelly and others say that they have reported posts and had no response. We do respond to every report (if we have lots of reports on one post you might receive a 'mass' reply to several reporters at once but we will respond). We would usually deal with reports on any kind of racism as a matter of priority, too, so if you haven't had a response to something like that, please do let us know. We'd like to check that we're receving your reports properly. Thanks!

Thanks, the most recent report I made (which didn't receive a response) was on the thread about whether someone is far-right if they have concerns about immigration. I would need to double check but the post I reported was in essence someone expressing displeasure with having to look around and see non-white faces. I think I commented in my report that the thread in its totality had quite nasty racist undertones and a fair few overtly racist and xenophobic posts were being made and not removed.

HebeMumsnet · 08/01/2025 10:21

Thanks @Igotjelly . We'll go and have a look for your report right now.

Why should they be moved? It's headline news at the moment

I've been here a long time and there has been a lot of threads about a lot of strange people and these threads are weird.

Maybe it's a sign of the times, I don't know.

We know that Russian bots have previously targeted Mumsnet, nothing to say it’s not more of that. Equally whilst I fundamentally disagree with Musk I do recognise he has a certain appeal to many people currently.
