Could you add a disclaimer at the top of each guest post to say that the OP won’t be coming back to the thread?

After all, I don’t think they ever do (which feels very rude of them) so it’s not worth anyone asking them questions or trying to engage with them. If that’s made clear right at the start, people will know not to bother.

Guest posts? I didn't think you could post unless you were a member. Or do you mean people who post and then deregister?

HebeMumsnet · 06/01/2025 10:29

Hi there @EmpressaurusKitty. Was there a particular thread you're thinking of? Our guest posts are all arranged carefully with the guest in question and it's usually clear when they've stopped answering questions. Or did you, as Optigan suggests, just mean generic posters who start a thread and then don't return?

Hi @HebeMumsnet

I was thinking of threads like https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/guest_posts/5218799-guest-post-my-colleagues-and-i-have-an-opportunity-to-make-the-end-of-life-safer-and-more-dignified-for-dying-people-kim-leadbeater-mp-writes-for-mumsnet-ahead-of-fridays-vote-on-assisted-dying or https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/guest_posts/5224179-guest-post-smartphones-have-become-such-a-presence-in-childrens-lives-that-change-requires-collective-action-josh-macalister-mp-writes-for-mumsnet-about-why-hes-tackling-this-issue-with-a-private-members-bill, where MNers come back with questions & comments not realising that the OP isn’t likely to respond. Or https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/guest_posts/5157023-education-secretarys-back-to-school-message-to-parents?page=10&reply=138359910 where HQ eventually explained that Bridget Phillipson wouldn’t be answering questions.

If it’s clear from the start that the guest poster won’t come back, that would save time & frustration.

Hi @EmpressaurusKitty - thanks again for raising this. Sometimes it can take a while for guest posters to draft their responses to the points and questions being raised by Mumsnetters, but we agree that a disclaimer would be a good idea if the guest poster is not likely to return to the thread. We're discussing this with the rest of the team and will be back with an update asap.
