Name change glitches

I'm trying to change my username to post some identifying stuff and it's successful here when starting a new thread.

When posting on an existing thread, my old one is still there.

I've tried re-starting my laptop. No dice.

You can't change your name within a thread. Once you've commented on a thread you must continue to use that name on that thread.

This. Once youve posted on a thread your user name stays the same on that thread, even if you go back and post on it 12 months later after 12 name changes.

Yes this. I think it's to avoid having trolls comment under loads of different names on the same thread.

Yes. This is a fairly new change, you might have missed the update.

I hope you're OK.

As others said, it's not a glitch.

Once you've posted on a thread under one username, you are "locked" to that username for that thread only. If you start a new thread it will be posted under your new username!

Thank you for the replies. The answer popped into my bonce this afternoon. I'd read it but never applied it.

I can see why it's necessary, but it sort of fucks up a timely intervention. So fuck all the mischievous name changers who made this necessary and narrowed what can be said on MN.

Meh.

How does it "narrow what can be said" though? It just stops you posting on the same thread under multiple user names - aka sockpuppeting. I think it's a really fair thing for MNHQ to have put in place (and I say that as someone with over 200 MN user names 😂 so it's not like I stick to the same name all the time!).

Hi @Nessashippingforecast - as others have pointed out, once you've posted on a thread, you're not able to post under a different username for subsequent posts.

We're able to change the username on your first post on the thread in question if that would help? Just mail us at contactus@mumsnet.com if so (or hit the report button on the post itself).
