Wrong thread marked as read

I've noticed a weird issue recently when viewing a thread and clicking back out of it to the topic - it marks the wrong thread as read.

For example - if I click the top thread in the list, when I navigate back to the list of threads the. The second thread is actually highlighted as read and not the top one I viewed.

Am on iOS.

Yeah, I get that too. It’s weird, and a little irritating.

Gertrudesinthegutter · 18/12/2024 06:36

Same issue here too.

Hi SlipperyPenguin (and others). Thanks for letting us know about this. We'll take a look. To help us get to the bottom of it, if anyone experiencing this issue could let us know what device and browser they are using, that would be great. If you could also send a screenshot (or, even better, a video) of what's happening - ie which thread you clicked on and which was highlighted when you navigated back, that would be really useful too. Many thanks. Flowers

@AwkwardSquad and @Gertrudesinthegutter - thought we'd @ you so we can try to resolve this issue more swiftly Smile If you can provide us with the details listed above, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi @HebeMumsnet @JoMumsnet

I am on iOS iPhone 15 pro max using the apple mumsnet app

I have screenshots below - also recorded a video but not sure how to attach that

Steps to recreate:-

  1. I navigated to relationships topic and all threads were marked unread
  1. I opened the second thread in the list named
  1. I clicked back icon to navigate back to the topic
  1. The first thread in the list is incorrectly marked rly marked as read

I seem to have a separate issue now in that it doesn't let me even select to upload photos

I’m accessing via Safari browser on an iPad Air 2020, iOS 18.1.1. The problem isn’t actually happening at the moment but I’ll pop back with a screenshot if it reoccurs.

When it happens, it’s the thread title below the one I’ve clicked on that shows as ‘read’, and not the one I’ve actually clicked on.

slipperypenguin · 21/12/2024 21:21

@HebeMumsnet @JoMumsnet I managed to attach screenshots

As you can see - I accessed the topic where no threads were opened/read. I clicked on the second thread. I clicked on the back button and it had marked the first thread (which I didn't access) as read and the second thread (the one I actually did access) still as unread. Hope this helps

Here’s an example, screenshot included: I was reading the thread titled ‘Anyone else disappointed by siblings’, went back to the Active list and ‘Zanzibar in April’ is highlighted as read instead.

I get this all the time too.
I'm using the app on my iPad.
Some time ago there was another thread on this issue and I think we were advised to uninstall and reinstall the app. That did work at first but it soon started doing it again.

HebeMumsnet · 15/01/2025 11:22

Hi there @slipperypenguin . We're still looking into this one. Could you tell us (assuming you can remember) if you were logged into the app at the time of those screenshots? And also if you were logged in on that same 'SlipperyPenguin' account?

slipperypenguin · 16/01/2025 20:58

Hi @HebeMumsnet yes definitely logged in with the same username on the iOS app
