Why are threads appearing in active that were last posted on hours ago?

S10, latest version of Android, latest version of Chrome.

Yes I've tried refreshing.

But I'm seeing threads in active convos that haven't been posted on since 6.30 this morning?

Do they maybe get bumped by getting likes?

You can't "like" posts on MN so it can't be that.

The specific threads I've noticed have zero replies as well. Which is just weird.

You can 'like' posts on MN by clicking on the Thanks icon at the bottom of someone's post. Except that it only works on the desktop site and not the mobile/app one.

But 'thanks' are specific to the individual, and no-one else will see that a post/poster has been thanked, so I doubt that this would bump a post.

I've seen this happen, in a way that I understood.

A spammer had reanimated an old thread, I reported it, and MNHQ "disappeared" that post, rather than deleting it and leaving the usual deletion message.

I prefer by far for there to be a deletion message

What? Yes you can

Ok "Thanks" then not "like." Same thing really

I've just seen another one! Again it was a post with zero replies, back in active convos hours after it was originally posted. What's going on?

Hello,

To help ensure that every post gets the attention it deserves, we’ve made a small adjustment to how threads are appearing in Active.

Threads without responses will now have a better chance of being seen and we hope this reduces the chance of someone feeling unheard if their thread gets lost (e.g. this can happen if someone posts in a quieter part of the site or at a less busy time).

We’re monitoring how it’s going and as always, if you’d prefer not to see a thread in Active, you can easily hide it.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 05/12/2024 19:39

Oh...

What does "a small adjustment" actually mean?

I don't mind seeing the threads, I was just really confused as to why conversations that are very much not active were appearing in active conversations!

Are threads with no replies being auto bumped back into active convos? Or is there an algorithm changing what we see, so it's no longer just a list of the last 50 threads to be posted on?

It just makes the site look dead. As though there are no new threads.
