Report option of: Looks like AI

TeenToTwenties · 30/11/2024 06:13

Would it be helpful to MN to add a report option to suggest a post is AI (normally an ad in disguise) or is the spam / ad option sufficient.

More and more I am seeing 'helpful' posts (most recent one was boiler safety) which then turn out to be an article-advertisement with a link off somewhere.

(Thinking it might help with internal stats and inform policy on new registrations etc to categorize separately.)

OP posts:

Oooh yes please, that would be great. I tend to report as "not a genuine poster".

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 30/11/2024 15:45

I'd love that. I think I'm starting to recognise AI posts but it takes a bit of time to get used to them, and meanwhile a lot of thoughtful comments are being wasted situations created by bots of whatever.

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/11/2024 16:04

Yes, good idea.

Occasionally I’ve asked on a thread whether a post was written with AI. Oddly enough the OP never answers.

MineMineMineMineMine · 30/11/2024 16:06

How do you recognise the ao ones? I'm always far too trusting

Happyinarcon · 30/11/2024 16:49

The recent thread about male midwives was obvious AI. Suddenly every poster had a story about how they had a fabulous male midwife who saved the day when the female midwives screwed up.

You just get a feeling for them.

Have you heard of the Uncanny Valley effect with faces? AI generated posts kind of give me that feeling - they're just "off" somehow but I couldn't necessarily explain exactly why!

Hoppinggreen · 30/11/2024 16:55

I can spot them pretty well. I also used to write SEO keyword articles so I know how to write them and I have seen quite a few.
I think we can just report as spam

Yes, they just smell wrong.

Overtheatlantic · 30/11/2024 19:37

I would love this option!

Hi @TeenToTwenties

If there's any kind of embedded link in a post then please report it as spam so it doesn't get lost in the queue of general reports. There have been quite a few allegedly 'helpful' ones lately which read very much like they're AI-generated and which almost always are trying to flog a product or service. Spam, spam, spam.

For non-spam posts that you're suspicious about, you can just select the 'Not a genuine poster' option. You're always welcome to provide more context in the Comments box and we're always grateful if you do Smile
