Why are posts containing a word for soft shoes worn for gym lessons being autohidden?

OP posts:
OldJohn · 24/11/2024 20:19

Because Ai is stupid and brainless and can't work out the context in which a forbidden word is used

PoissonOfTheChrist · 24/11/2024 20:20

There's a weirdo that trolls about them quite frequently.

LilyMumsnet · 25/11/2024 18:53

Hi OP

We have some filters in place that send us alerts for certain topics - depending on the topic, posts may be auto-hidden. They are reviewed by the Mumsnet community team (not AI) and unhidden if above board - if not above board, they are deleted.

If you think we've missed something, please do let us know and we'll take a look.

@LilyMumsnet

I had a post hidden for almost half a day on the Style & Beauty forum for using a completely normal word for an item of footwear sold by an upmarket children's clothing site and also sold in Liberty.

The reason for this being banned is because of a troll poster, who from what I've read, was a bit odd, but harmless.

You tolerate posters calling other posters things like cunt, arse, Karen, gammon, and chav; ableist and ageist posts get a pass but heaven forfend a word meaning a canvas shoe with a rubber sold is mentioned.

BIWI · 26/11/2024 23:04

It's to stop the troll from trolling @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - because once they start, they are horribly prolific (as well as a pointless waste of everyone's time)

AlbertCamusflage · 26/11/2024 23:13

I love the fact that we can't say 'plump soul'.
The humble little Woolworths purchase of my childhood promoted to the Voldemort of footwear.

Yes I know but as far as I can find out the troll was a while ago and wasn't offensive. If the trolling is that bad, then report it when it happens. Also it's easy enough to skip over posts.

I had almost half a day where it looked as if I'd posted something offensive. My post wasn't unhidden when "they'd had a look at it". It took 2 emails from me.

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2024 00:28

That troll is massively and endlessly prolific over the internet, not just MN. If they haven’t been here in a while then thank the filter. So fucking tedious.

BIWI · 27/11/2024 10:01

That troll IS offensive though - it plays on a shoe fetish, which draws other trolls to the site. And @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastledon't be so naive as to think that just because that particular 'theme' is taken care of, that they won't be back. That troll is one of the most prolific on Mumsnet. It isn't simply the case of 'skipping over' posts.

I've just had a thread hidden until MN looks at it.

it was about choosing a magnesium supplement, I can't think what I said that's a problem ?? And I really wanted to order some tonight.

🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

@SnoopySantaPaws Look at Lindens magnesium on Amazon. Incredibly good value (especially in the larger packs but you might want to start with a small pack see if it suits you) and I've been taking it for years.
