Truncating quoted posts

Now we have the OP truncated on all threads, is there any chance of truncating quoted posts?

It's fine when they're short, but when people quote-post a reply to a really long post it makes it really difficult to navigate.

It needn't be like the OP one where the entire post is gone, but just show, say, the first 4 or 5 lines (as happens when you are actually writing a reply and quoting a post)

Hi OP

Thanks for the suggestion - we'll have a chat about this in the office.

Or you could do as other fora I am on, where you have the ability to select and quote certain lines from another post. So, for example, you may only want to comment on part of a post, so you should be able to select only those lines. Rather than having to copy and paste, you select the entire quote and can then edit it down to the part you want to reply to.

I agree.

What annoys me immensely, is when someone posts a long post (eg; 12 paragraphs/950 words,) and someone posts a response to that post within a minute/directly after the long post, and quotes the whole bloody 12 paragraph/950 word post!

EVEN WHEN THE LONG POST WAS THE LAST ONE ON THE THREAD some people do this! Like, just @ the poster you're referring to, and answer the post. Don't quote a massive post directly after it. Only do it if it's more than 4 or 5 posts back!

!

I also think it should be illegal to quote the ops 1st within say 10 / 15 other post .
Twice yesterday someone quoted the ops 1st post straight after the post .
Stop , just stop it!

DanceMoveGrooveAndShoutIt · 21/11/2024 23:56

Just don't allow the OP (first post) to be quoted at all. It's infuriating, we all know what you're replying to, and half the time the OP has posted subsequent posts anyway yet people come barging in quoting the OP with "helpful" questions that were answered days ago!

Brefugee · 22/11/2024 10:28

all posts can be super long though - and since we can't stop people (even accidentally) quoting the first post etc, it makes sense to truncate ALL quoted posts, then we're fine and dandy.
