At the moment if you want advice on what car to buy, what different car terms mean etc it's scattered all around the place.

Could we have a board just for car stuff please?

Yes not sure why the topic was got rid of a while back, seems quite sexist! We do want to talk about cars too Mumsnet

Ihatemondays1962 · 02/11/2024 23:48

I think this is a good idea too.

Apolitia · 03/11/2024 00:15

Yes please. We have ones for genealogy and breast pumps - quite niche subjects yet most people run cars.

particularly important to have this on a predominantly female forum - it’s no longer universally the case that menz do the car buying and maintaining ;) especially for us single female parents.

deeahgwitch · 03/11/2024 16:02

I agree.
A shame the Car topic went.
Please bring it back.

WrinklesShminkles · 03/11/2024 19:27

Agree!

SeatonCarew · 03/11/2024 19:28

A good idea!

WellHelloScottie · 03/11/2024 19:30

Yes please

NinaLively · 03/11/2024 19:59

Yes please!

rumred · 03/11/2024 20:12

I'd use it. Car buying is a minefield.

GoldenSunflowers · 03/11/2024 21:04

Good idea.

I was in a Kia e~Niro today. Excellent space for passengers at the back. I don’t know how it drives, as it was an Uber. The boot space “seemed” on the small side, but that’s just what I gleaned when twisting round to put the seat belt on.

It was deleted because it was barely used - so no sexist reasons

BIWI · 03/11/2024 23:08

It used to direct you to a different board/forum though, which was irritating. I think because it was sponsored by Ford*. But if it was just another MN topic I think that would be a great idea.

*I was lucky enough to go on a day event at Donington Park, sponsored by Ford, when they launched the Ford Grand C-Max, so I'm very grateful for that!

HebeMumsnet · 04/11/2024 09:53

Morning, everyone. Yes, as @Efacsen says, that board was removed a while back because it just wasn't being used.

Things do change though and if there's enough call for a board like that now and it's clear it will be well populated, we're always happy to have a rethink. Sounds like mostly what you'd like to discuss is which cars to buy? Or would people like a more generic cars board with discussions on other issues too? (Maybe not parking threads! ;-) )

Pop your thoughts here anyway, and we'll keep reading.

Swissrollover · 04/11/2024 10:16

A generic car board please, not just which to buy.

BIWI · 04/11/2024 10:33

A topic for parking disputes would be fab @HebeMumsnet Grin Grin Grin

HebeMumsnet · 04/11/2024 11:38

Sounds like this was already being discussed here at Mumsnet Towers and it's been given the green light (or at least the flashing amber light) - look out for a cars board coming soon....

@GoldenSunflowers I bloody love my e-Niro. It's a dream to drive. The boot is a reasonable size for an EV, there's more space if you remove the false floor in the boot. It's not quite tall enough for my DH's manual wheelchair to stand upright in, and not quite deep enough for it to fit in flat either. But I'm happy to compromise on that for such a brilliant car.

JellyTotsAreYum · 05/11/2024 09:30

@HebeMumsnet Great news! But like @Swissrollover I'd like a board that's not just which one to buy (I want someone to explain the differences between different types of automatic transmissions first.).

Apolitia · 05/11/2024 23:24

Hurray!

a board a bit wider than what car to buy would be good.

it could cover stuff like insurance, maintenance, dealing with garages, etc.

HollyLollyMollyJolly · 06/11/2024 12:24

A general 'Cars' board makes more sense. Covers all things Cars.

BeckyAMumsnet · 11/11/2024 11:16

Hi everyone - thanks for the suggestion. We have revved up the Car topic again and you can find it here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/cars

Please make use of your board - we periodically review all topics and may retire any that are mostly tumbleweeds.

deeahgwitch · 11/11/2024 13:55

Thank you @BeckyAMumsnet 💐
