Aveeno Promotion and Food Allergies

Hi MN

I've just read your Aveeno promotion article, but nowhere does it mention the increased risk of food allergy from using oat based creams pre weaning.

There's some info here:

https://allergyfacts.org.au/development-of-food-allergy-through-food-based-skincare-products/

Little babies really shouldn't be using creams based on food products, their first exposure should be through the gut rather than skin.

I ate peanut butter every day while BFing my eldest not understanding the risk, and now I pack her off to school with epipens every day - likely because I exposed her through her skin. It's really important that parents understand the link.

Please rethink this ad - I'm sure Aveeno have other products you could promote.

Development of food allergy through food-based skincare products - Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia

There is growing evidence that skincare products that include food as an ingredient and are used on very dry or damaged skin (broken skin), can lead to development of an allergy to that food, especially if that food is not eaten...

Thanks Lily.

Hi again,

Please could you get in touch with Aveeno directly here? Their customer care team will look into this.

Hi @LilyMumsnet , yes I will do but I can't imagine my word as one parent will carry much weight compared to MN as a company...
