Can MNHQ know my identity?

What if someone I knew worked for MNHQ, if there was a problem or report that caused that person to look me up, would they see my email address and potentially recognise me, find out all my dark hidden life secrets?

Depends on how recognisable you are from your email address?

Stick it through Google and you'll find out.

I just use a throwaway one for chat forums/shopping/applying for freebies etc.

Should add though, if they did look you up through your email address, that would be a GDPR breach.

As they wouldn't be using the data you've given them for the purpose you gave it.

You don’t need to work at Mumsnet for that. There’s a regular poster who is from the same city as me. My curiosity got piqued and based on multiple identifying data points she provided I found her name, maiden name, school, uni, kids and husbands names, husbands political affiliation, mother in laws name, religious place of worship she attends. She has published none of that, but what she has published is niche and I found all this with literally a few clicks. My advice, use the name change function.

Only if you have all your dark, hidden life secrets linked to your email address 🤷‍♀️

Danioyellow · 18/10/2024 00:22

If you’ve used your actual email address, then yes. I know one poster had tts police turn up at her door as she was posting she was suicidal. Mn reached her through her ip address or something (not saying it was the wrong thing for them to do)
