Virus scam appearing only when on Mumsnet

Just wondering if anyone else has had this?
As in the title I'm getting frequent "warnings", supposedly from McAfee, claiming I've got various viruses and inviting me to click a link (not done of course)

I don't use McAfee anyway and they're not from them - their site has images of a common scam which matches these - but it only happens when I'm clicked onto Mumsnet

Anyone know what's happening by any chance?

It isn't like advertisers randomly add ads in the same we as we can add posts or even start a thread

Isn't it though?
I could be wrong, but thought HQ said something about an external company who handle this for them, and if that's so it begs the question of why it's happening on here and not other sites

Anyway there's been no update for a while and it looks like nothing's changing, so until it does my adblocker will just have to stay on

I just got exactly the same on this thread:

Just got it again on the "jealous of this family" thread.
Think I'll keep off the trending threads, that seems to be where it's happening.

I am getting this one too.

How do I stop it? Thank you.

Using an adblocker extension/plugin for your browser is so far proving 100% effective at stopping it. As mentioned in previous posts.

I do have Adblock installed, it hasn't stopped it.

The one that's working for me is Ublock Origin Lite.

Hi everyone, thanks for alerting us. We're working on this now and will be back if we need further info. As before, any info including screen grabs, where you saw it, device/browser, etc. is very helpful.

Dell laptop, chrome browser, no adblocker installed. Seem to be getting it on all the trending threads but I'm not getting it on The Doghouse (yet) which is where I generally hang out...

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 10/12/2024 13:03

It's been coming through on my laptop after about 15 minutes of browsing the site, regardless of which page I am looking at at the time Adblock fitted on one laptop (but not on the other) but doesn't seem to stop it..

IwantToRetire · 10/12/2024 17:48

p1gq0izj.shop/? - yes this is the newly registered web site I mentioned which is sending the same message that other websites were.

I really think that people who registered domain names should set up a list of the people who created these web sites.

I'm not going to post it, but have traced the company behind this new url, and is registered in London, but of the 4 company officers 3 have resigned and the remaining one is based in China.

WhoPutTheBomp · 10/12/2024 18:10

Thanks Iwant.

DogInATent · 10/12/2024 19:43

If you're going to share the website, at least break the link so they don't get a backlink and, more importantly, because someone might be daft enough to click it.

TheEnglishSystemSucks · 10/12/2024 20:09

I've just had this on a page I was on!

Clearly it is not. I have an adblocker and I am still getting this crappy pop up.

PyreneanAubrie · 11/12/2024 08:30

I had it pop up within 30 seconds of logging in this morning - it appeared as soon as I clicked on a trending thread, even before I'd read the original post.

Which one?
I've named the one that's working for me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/12/2024 09:17

Adguard, and I'm happy your blocker is working for you but firstly 1) you made an eye rolly statement that using an adblocker is 100% effective in stopping this, which is clearly not correct for many on this thread who already have ad blockers, and b) I don't want to add new adblockers every time Mumsnet has another problem like this. It happens too often, and I think site problems should be fixed at the site, not by users finding ways to manage an unsolved problem.

Yes, and thank you for that DogInATent; I don't even understand how these things work, but it's done it for me and it's bliss not to have the constant problems
