Could the "slummy mummy" thread link be removed from the front page? It's really horrible.

Most of the thread is a really nasty and personal attack on the OP and I feel really uncomfortable that something so personal is so visible.

Not to mention the fact that any newbies clicking on the link to see what MN-ers chat about will be put off for ever. It's not at all a typical MN thread and it's miles away from the robust-but-supportive stuff that (to me) makes MN so fab.

Maybe link to the DVD-in-restaurant thread instead? Now there's a fascinating parenting dilemma.

Excellent point, Wellie

agree.
Just read that post. Honestly thought OP was just having a laugh. Then saw the vile sanctimonious comments....
Felt for her as we all know she's so young and she always comes across as very genuine and sweet.

Anyway, your last post on that thread was spot on.
Don't want to post anything there but just wanted to say thx to the usual supportive crew who came to the rescue.

hopeful bump for MN Towers

Oh, I see it has gone.
I totally agree with you, really felt for the Op. A lighthearted (misguided) thread that went far too venomous and nasty.
Not why I come on here.

niceglasses · 17/04/2008 08:59

I totally agree. Without sounding too much like ' I told you so' - I tried to say a lot of this early on in that thread. It was the total worst of MN and I have to be honest and say its a lot of the reason I don't come on here half as much as I used to. Somebody a little different, from a bit of a different angel, gets pilled in with nasty sweeping generalisations.

I have seen tons of those very same ' slummy mummy' comments from other posters over the years but because they might have used the right phrases or because it was not all in one post, no one batted an eye. Nasty.

I think NA remained very clam and controlled - I wouldn't and I'm more than twice her age!

I wouldn't remove it mind, I'd keep it as a reminder of how nast MN can be!

welliemum · 17/04/2008 09:06

Well, I don't like threads being removed and I think it should stay, but I don't think it should be linked from the home page.

(The link is still there, by the way)

I came to the thread late, niceglasses, and was cheering when I got to your posts! The rest was mostly just depressing.

Definitely many MN posters being nasty and NA has remained calm (credit to her) and reasonable (whether right or not) when posters have been downright rude.
