Adverts that are videos or changing pictures

I appreciate adverts are part of the deal for free sites, but does anyone else find adverts that play videos or have changing pictures really annoying? The current one that's getting on my nerves is Nuna x Liberty that shows on every page I load, and despite me clicking on "not interested" or "seen multiple times" it won't go away. All I can do it keep clicking the close button. These types annoy me as they draw the eye (what they're designed for I know!) but I just close them instantly as I hate them.

Is there any way for MN to block these types of ads?

Hi there @CandidaAlbicans2 . Thanks for flagging this. Could you possibly click on the ad next time you see it and send us the url? Or failing that, send us a screenshot or screen video?

Thank you!

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 21/08/2024 13:19

God yes. I haven’t seen it but I loathe video / changing picture ads, they make it really hard to concentrate on what I actually want to look at.

@HebeMumsnet This SpecSavers ad has changing pictures which is really distracting too

The Tu clothing ones have been a nightmare tonight. I think I’ve managed to close them now but they were changing so quickly they were flashing and have given me a migraine.

edited, as soon as I posted they were back, awful, I’m off, hopefully they’ll not be here tomorrow

123456abcdef · 22/08/2024 10:16

Here to add the tu clothing one. It flashes so much in my peripheral that it's setting off a migraine. Can't continue to use site.

@HebeMumsnet
Here's are the Tu video ones that are on 2 areas at least. I wish there was a way of blocking animated or video adverts as they're so annoying as to deter me from websites.

Thanks for posting these URLs, CandidaAlbicans2. We're taking a look and will be back with an update as soon as we can.

watchingthesnowfall · 23/08/2024 18:42

There's also one that looks like a Facebook page with a flashing unread message that keeps appearing at the top of the page. When I clicked on it, it seemed to be some astrology site. Really annoying having the flashing at the top of the page, and no x to get rid of it!

Boxina · 23/08/2024 18:48

I'm ND and these kinds of adverts make me feel really sick and anxious. I hate them, they are so inaccessible.

Sewsewsew · 23/08/2024 21:51

It’s seems even worse than yesterday. It’s the Tu ads.

Gatekeeper · 24/08/2024 08:01

PLEASE,PLEASE get rid of the horrible TU advert. Not only is it everywhere but the flashing images should NOT be allowed

It’s no better today. I’m having to size the iPad screen so the TU ads are off of it.
Mumsnet site staff you really need to sort this out please.

This is the one that is always flashing on mine - horoscope news! Drives me crazy!

My God yes to the Tu ones. I've tried so many times to get rid of it but it comes straight back. I have to put a book against the screen to block it out.....sooooo annoying!!

CandidaAlbicans2 · 25/08/2024 15:30

@OhshutupNancy I've had to put a book against the screen to block out the ones without a close function. We really shouldn't have to do that to get rid of the migraine-inducing ones! What's just as irritating is that no matter how often I send feedback to Google like it suggests when closing the ads, they just pop up again. Constantly.

@JoMumsnet this is the link to the flashing Tu advert

It is back again this morning and driving me nuts!! You are right no matter how many times you shut it down it just comes back seconds later. Surely we should be able to control what we see? I don't mind ads but not the moving ones it is sooooo distracting and annoying!

Procrastinates · 26/08/2024 07:38

Another here agreeing that the Tu advert is just completely ridiculous and the fact it's still there 5 days after a PP first mentioned it above is just really poor form MN.

Also they are a nightmare for accessibility. My hearing aids automatically connect to my iPad and iPhone and if a video starts randomly playing I get a horrible blast of noise.

God forbid if you use a screen reader.

Boxina · 23/08/2024 18:48

I'm ND and these kinds of adverts make me feel really sick and anxious. I hate them, they are so inaccessible.

I'm the same. I'm on my phone so I can't cover that part up with anything.
Not MN but if I'm on a website on my desktop which has moving adverts I stick a piece of card over that area of the screen (I have a massive iMac) because my brain can not handle the movement, it stresses my brain out and I get anxious/adrenalinised.

I can't watch and don't allow lots of kids programs for this reason too, lots of noise/flashing/movement is not good for us.
