Quoting a post plus the reply

I’ve noticed that other posters manage to use a post, plus the reply, as a quote - but when I try to do this, I don’t get both parts. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using the normal website in Chrome? The app doesn't work properly.

KellyMumsnet · 29/07/2024 11:15

Hi @Thursdaygirl . Yes, if you're using the app, this feature won't work we're afraid. But if not it might just be that when you click to quote a post, it only shows the post you are quoting (not the one THAT post was quoting). If you look on the preview you should see both quotes there. There's also a button on there that 'expands' the quote history. It appears 'unexpanded' just to save room on the thread but if you click it you can see the whole history of all the quotes.

That all sounded a bit meta but hopefully it makes sense.

Hi Kelly, no I am not using the app. Your response does make sense but I’m still not able to quote both a post and the reply. I noticed someone else has posted on Site Stuff with the same issue.

See the post made today at 14.04hrs, a post AND a reply has been quoted (so it’s clearly possible)!

@Thursdaygirl on that other thread, the 14:04 post is quoting your post of 13:56. Am I looking at the right one?

As far as I see, your 13:56 post isn't quoting anyone at all.

All I see of your post is some text in bold

"why do you all have to stay in the same small house together, for three weeks???"

and then some text, your reply, not in bold.

I don't see anywhere in your post that you have quoted anybody. Where you do get multiple quotes then you get something that says "Show quote history".

Here is an example from a couple of days ago where I quoted somebody and if you click on the link that says "Show quote history" you will see the post that they quoted in the first place.

Incidentally, if you see the following post to mine you will see that they have quoted me and you can then click on "Show quote history" and still see the whole history of everyone who has quoted everyone else.

I have just quoted you.

I have now just quoted me quoting myself. Can you see the "Show quote history" link?
