Strobing/flickering adverts

Not sure it will show up on a screen shot (I will try) but I am getting the side bar adverts flickering and strobing as if they're trying to expand but can't. Doesn't matter if I am mousing over the ad or not. Randomly stops and starts. It is really annoying and the flickering strobing effect isn't great for some folks eyes/brains!

PC user - Firefox browser, browser up to date.

Hi @WiddlinDiddlin if you can't grab a screenshot, please can you tell us a bit more about the ads? What are the ads for and are they just on certain threads?

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/05/2024 14:41

Will do next time it happens - haven't noticed it on specific ads or threads yet, it has happened three or four times though.

I've just had one of these, for Mimecast I think it was? Very distracting and I suffer from migraines which can be triggered by this kind of strobe effect so really dangerous to users.

I'm on a laptop using Firefox.

Londonloubelia · 27/05/2024 19:58

I’ve had the same one from Mimecast for the last two days. Strobing and becoming so large you can’t read any threads. I’ve come out and restarted Mumsnet with no change.

OutOfTheHouse · 27/05/2024 21:08

Same here. I’ve taken some pictures. I’ve only seen it on my iPad.

Hi again, everyone,

We've blocked some of these ads this morning so hopefully you should be seeing it less now, but if it appears again, we'd be really grateful if you could send us the url to the ad itself or if not a link to the thread where you saw it and we'll get any new ones blocked asap.

WiddlinDiddlin · 29/05/2024 13:44

Not seen it since but yes it was that advert that OutOfTheHouse posted!

Minecraft advert has just come up flickering and fading in and out. Dreadful. I had to close my browser to get rid of it!

can't even see the point of the advert. Certainly doesn't encourage me to find out more.

Londonloubelia · 30/05/2024 07:41

I’ve got the Minecraft ad back again this morning. Yesterday it was an add that I had to rotate my device to get rid of, can you block again please?

The vodafone advert that keeps crashing the site for me is back too!

LilyMumsnet · 31/05/2024 18:17

Hi all

Please can you click the adverts (you can do this in incognito) to get the URL for us? This helps us locate and block it. As they are ad choice adverts, they are tailored and make it difficult for us to find them.

Also, it is worth clearing your cache as this resets your browser memory, and implements any blocks we've made our end. Could you please give this a go?

OutOfTheHouse · 03/06/2024 22:40

And again!

sorry I forgot to click.

It’s still doing it, and driving me completely crazy.

Levriers · 05/06/2024 15:46

@LilyMumsnet @HebeMumsnet just happened again. Links in post above. Is there any news on this please ?

ManicBuckEejit · 05/06/2024 20:17

Keeps happening to me too, this is the pic and URL (I think) of it happening just there now. It's always the same ad

I’ve had the mimecast one too. The adverts on this site are awful. I often give up and log off.

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/06/2024 11:02

Mimecast one again. Couldn't get a URL, clicked and clicked but it wouldn't take me to the link at all.

Was looking at my 'watch' list of threads at the time.

Hi all,

Thanks for letting us know - we've had some URLs shared on another thread in helpscout so we're looking into blocking it again now.
