Zombies

How do people find zombie threads in order to resurrect them? I don’t mean when a poster has searched for a topic and found an old thread and posted on it deliberately, in hopes of advice, but random ones where people reply six months later as if it’s just been posted.

I went to reply to a thread today that appeared in Active only to see my own name and realise I’d already replied - in January! But someone else had resurrected it.

Just curious really.

It's so annoying, I feel like stabbing my eyes off my face !! half of them are resurrected in the early hours, obviously bored out of their minds. What's worse is more people come on with advice ignoring the millions of zombie warnings offering advice for the then 2 month old baby who's now 90 !!

Probably landed on them from a web search "mumsnet snapped and farted" or something like that, then just replied without checking dates.
Some of the quieter discussion areas have old old posts on the first page too, so just hitting a title then replying will do it. Then it's in Active and people follow up more...

I know. I feel like replying to them and saying, ‘I’m pretty sure the OP has bought a suitcase by now seeing as the holiday was in June last year!’

Oh I hadn’t thought about web searches. That makes sense.

Google sometimes. I Google things and occasionally a mn thread pops up

Hello @afaloren as pps have said, many people arrive on Mumsnet via Google search and then add to a thread. (We do have a warning on the message box when a thread is a zombie.) In some circumstances, it's not an issue to reanimate an old thread (e.g. when the OP comes back with an update) but if you think that isn't the case, please report to us and we can close it to new posts if necessary.
