Fake Keir Starmer Advert

Hi MNHQ,

This advert came up on a thread I was reading a couple of minutes ago. Since I haven’t seen a news story about Keir Starmer being beaten up/ in a fight, I assumed it was dodgy or fake news and didn’t click on the link.

I know that advertising is needed for the site, but I’d rather not see dodgy websites or actual fake news advertised on here! Can this be removed?

There is one similar with Jeremy Clarkson - just awful

CassandraProphesying · 15/05/2024 10:35

Just came to make a thread about this too…

WashableVelvet · 15/05/2024 10:36

+1 for this. Not appropriate.

LateToTheParty · 15/05/2024 10:39

Same, doesn't relate to anything I usually browse either

HebeMumsnet · 15/05/2024 10:48

Morning, everyone. Thanks for flagging this. We'll take a look now. If anyone is able to click on the ad and send us the url that will help us track it down a bit quicker.

Thanks again.

Popcorn640 · 15/05/2024 10:52

Yes seeing them continuously and really inappropriate.

Clearly won't be clicking on them - what a ridiculous request from an internet safety perspective!

You want us to click on it?!

astonssandboxisalittertray · 15/05/2024 10:55

Oh I just clicked on it to try to be helpful...,,

Do I need to do anything to make my phone safe now?

astonssandboxisalittertray · 15/05/2024 10:57

It brings up a fake bbc website with the web address

Investmentinthegb.com

Please could someone tell me if my phone is at risk now

Measureformeasure · 15/05/2024 10:58

I came looking a post about this. I've had both the Clarkson and Starmer ones on the app this morning. They keep coming up on everything thread and are not only in poor taste but scammy too.

NotAdultingToday · 15/05/2024 11:05

I pressed the x in the top right hand corner and it took me to google ads and i reported it there. I think it said it originated in America?

Agree its a horrible fake ad

shellyleppard · 15/05/2024 11:07

Its from the daily mail newspaper site....was on there this morning

shellyleppard · 15/05/2024 11:10

Just saw one on here for Jeremy Clarkson

prettybird · 15/05/2024 11:15

Can i ask a not so naive question: given that this ad is everywhere on MN, why can't someone at MN click through themselves? ConfusedHmm

Why do we have to take the risk of compromising our devices? Angry

We are constantly advised not to click on "dodgy" looking links - and this is a prime example of a dodgy looking link ConfusedAngry

the80sweregreat · 15/05/2024 11:21

Seen one for Jeremy Clarkson too
I guess it's just a scam ? Although many might be tempted to give it a go

Glitterbiscuits · 15/05/2024 11:24

Ive just come on to complain about this.
It's horrible

notworkingagain · 15/05/2024 11:49

Sorry I just cross posted a new thread about this. Please delete. It's disgraceful that this ad is appearing. The banner ads on Mumsnet are everywhere at the moment and it's all this fake rubbish or gambling ads. It's completely spoiling the user experience.

Echobelly · 15/05/2024 12:17

Ugh, I hate these stupid ads 'The Truth about [Celeb] is out'], '"I'm sorry for what I've done" says [Celeb]', 'Shocking Allegations About [Celeb]' sometimes with rubbishly photoshopped pics like the above, always linking to some site with a name suggesting it's someting to do with finance.

HebeMumsnet · 15/05/2024 12:34

Afternoon again. Thanks to everyone who's shared URLs. We've blocked those that you've sent through so hopefully you should all see less of this now. We're still looking for the source of the ad. In the meantime, please do send through any new URLs you come across for this ad and we'll continue to block them while we work on it.

justjudy · 15/05/2024 12:57

I'm still getting them and they're horrible. You've not a chance of getting me to click on the links though!

leafinthewind · 15/05/2024 13:03

I came here for this too. The Starmer add clicked through to a fake BBC site at investmentinthegb.com
