Hi MNHQ in the deletion message for the latest thread you've inexplicably taken down on DM you include a link to your 'trans discussion policy'

I'm on the app, iPhone, the link doesn't work ie isn't clickable, even though it shows up as a link.

I also think if you delete a thread for 'not being in the spirit' on a topic like this, you should be clearer why, specifically.

Unless something changed from when I last saw it, the commentary was predominantly on a music video created by DM, and used pronouns in accordance with sex. I can't see how either of these are 'not in the spirit'.

Hi OP

Before the thread was removed, we posted the reason for deletion and shared the following segment of our talk guidelines:

'Most trans people find the use of pronouns or names that they or others have consciously rejected, to be hurtful and would therefore struggle to engage in a discussion with those who insist on using them. The same is true of the expression ‘Trans-Identified Male’ or ‘TIM’.'

Quite a lot of posts on the thread(s) from today were offensive and broke more than one of our talk guidelines. We work hard to host this discussion, so we'd really appreciate it if Mnetters could bear this in mind when posting.

Ah thanks Lily - I hadn't been back to the thread to see this.

I don't suppose you want the argument re-hashed here 😂 so I'll simply say - the person being referred to was not required to enter into any discussion so their hurt at the or

Flip. Posted in error.

...their hurt at the pronouns being used, is not relevant.

I'm really surprised at MN's decision here & wonder what influences it. It was very clear the material produced by the individual under discussion was extremely offensive to women. Previously, thjs commentary has been allowed. I wonder if there's a question of legal action being threatened to MN?

We understand but regardless, it's not civil to the debate and it's not something we allow on the boards. Our guidelines have stated this for quite some time and we're not going to be changing our moderation in the foreseeable.

To clarify, It's absolutely fine to discuss this individual and their projects - criticism is also fine and something we have never shied away from. However, posts that do nothing other than attack an individuals appearance are not constructive and they have no place on Mumsnet. We found a few of these, alongside many posts that were using rejected pronouns.

We really do work hard behind the scenes to ensure this discussion continues - so we have to moderate them to our talk guidelines.

Thanks @LilyMumsnet and regardless of any views I hold on the individual, I agree fully re attacks on appearance.

For accuracy, I need to point out that many other threads on this individual previously have also used pronouns in accordance with their biological sex and not been deleted.

I do appreciate it is difficult position for MN, with regard to moderation, at times.

Thanks again.

Sorry, completely skipped past that! Are you running the latest version, and do other links work when not in a deletion message?

Yes, and I think so? Like I've clicked on links in S&B threads & they work fine. I suspect it might be just the deletion message ones!
