Please. Then I can hide the topic again and forget about this non-story until I listen to the BBC news, which is leading on it, sigh.

There are several threads about it, for a start. Why people don't search to see if there's an existing thread on a big news story is a mystery to me.

Good God yes. Please.

I have just opened a photo thread masquerading as something that matters. I left a comment or two because I was grumpy and irritable. That might have been a mistake😅

I’ve seen five in Active this morning. It’s daft to have that many.

Could we maybe have Mothers Day topic too?

Morning @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g (and others). Thanks for getting in touch.

While this is such a huge story (it's front page of the BBC and other media outlets this morning) we're afraid we don't think we can tell posters where to discuss this or limit the number of threads on it. We will continue to monitor things and may take a different view if things change though.

In the meantime, you can always 'hide' the threads as they pop up so at least you don't have to see the same ones every time you log on. We do understand that if you're just not interested it can be a bit much, so hiding threads might help a bit.

Thanks, @HebeMumsnet, fair enough.

It is absolutely ridiculous now. Yet another one. I don't see why you can't just move them to the Rf board?

Personally I'd have everything moved into the right topic. But those royal family threads are weird. Like twilight zone weird. So is the press. All banging on about a photo, zooming in on hands and stuff.

What are people's lives like that they're having to zoom in on photos and relentlessly talk about it?

That’s a bit of a crappy response. If we can keep the anti-vaxx loons in the Covid board, the dedicated antisemites in the Middle East board, we should be able to keep the manic forelock-tuggers and Royal obsessives to the RF board. It means we can hide them, and not be subjected to the craziest MN posters.

Lots of other threads seem to be about major news stories, yet both generally go into and/or are moved into their specific little boards. For example, sometimes front-page stories involve women's rights, the issue of legal sex, JKR, etc. yet these, with the exception of the occasional 'AIBU to believe...' (and my recollection is some of these have been moved) stick in the Feminism board. The whole board of 'Conflict in the Middle East' was set up around something which has occupied many front pages in recent months.

Why is this any different? It's an ongoing issue in the sense that royal-focused threads have likewise leaked out massively into the general Talk pages also around the time of the coronation and around the time of the death of Elizabeth. I think we can accept that occasionally there is a thread relating to these elsewhere (a constitutional discussion about a republic might well be in AIBU) in the same way that sometimes there's a thread in general boards which would belong in another specialised area. But I believe that generally there should be a policy that threads relating to 'the royal family' should go to the board for 'the royal family'.
