Separate bit for Tarot cards

The paranormal section seems to be getting clogged up with people asking for advice on tarot spreads or requests for tarot readings. I hate it when I see that there is a new thread on the paranormal topic only to find its someone asking for tarot advice.

Is there any chance tarot cards could have their own sub section, maybe within paranormal or spirituality?

Hi OP

Thanks for the suggestion.
We'll keep an eye on this thread to measure the interest level.

No! Don't encourage them! It's complete nonsense.

Well possibly, but some would argue that the whole paranormal section and all the religious threads are the same. But I wasn't asking Mumsnet to police peoples beliefs, merely to stop the whole paranormal section being clogged up with tarot requests that never get answered probably because it doesn't belong in the paranormal section.

Yep, this isn't about what you think of Tarot, it's about whether or not the paranormal board, which is generally enjoyable board often sharing people's spooky and uncanny stories, is the place for people making tarot card requests or offering to read them. It's got indundated with increasingly desperate and sometimes quite uncomfortable requests recently, mainly as a result of some posters offering to do free reads on there. The free reads proved hugely popular, although the subsequent requests usually go unanswered. That suggests that other people may be feeling equally uncomfortable. It's not really in the "spirit" (😉) of that board, which is usually about stories, as I say .

I'm pretty sure there are more "witchy" type threads in spirituality that would be suitable. Although quite honestly, not sure Mumsnet is really the place for giving and asking for readings.

But I was answering the question posed in the OP @hihelenhi :

... and giving the reason for my answer.

I agree with BIWI. A separate topic for readings of any kind might attract people trying to solicit paying customers and sadly, while for some this is a bit of harmless fun, others prey on the vulnerable who are desperate for the illusion of hope.

Unnecessary and rude comment.

As I said, I personally don't think Mumsnet is really the place for soliciting or giving readings fullstop, for the reasons others have mentioned. No issue with tarot or other 'woo' or indeed religious discussions. I'm responding to the OP from the perspective of someone also on the paranormal board who just thinks the tarot requests don't belong there, which is the main reason she's made the request. Hopefully the fact that this request has been made at all might in itself discourage others from continuing to use the board for that.

Tarot Cards in themselves are not nonsense, what is nonsense is believing they're somehow going to predict the future, and the current trend of reading ok tiktok is fuelling this.

They're meant as a guidance, the reader is supposed to take the message from the cards, and apply it to life and their current circumstances, its a means of channelling intention and thoughts about whats on your mind.

Anyone using it for 'divination' and 'fortune telling' is abusing and twisting the point of them.

They can't tell you if derek will dump his girl for you, or if you'll get that amazing job and become rich, they can help you realise sometimes what's bothering you can be resolved by stepping back, taking a moment to reflect, thinking about others around you and how you're reacting, and how a bit of self reflection on your situation and behaviour can help you find the path forward in confidence.
