Bloody auto play video ads on app

FusionChefGeoff · 15/02/2024 23:18

These are driving me mad - I like to listen to music etc as I browse MN sometimes but every time I scroll past a fecking auto play add it cuts out my music so I have to keep switching it back on!

I'm giving up now and going to read my book instead of Mumsnetting as a direct result so thought you might need to know in case more people are literally turned off by this too.

Hi @FusionChefGeoff we're sorry to hear this.

Can you please give us a few details, firstly about the device and browser you're using and whether you're using iOS or android app.

And secondly if you can give us any info about the ads you're seeing and the threads they're cropping up on so we can take a closer look.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, FusionChefGeoff

Auto-sound ads are supposed to be blocked but unfortunately there are a few that sneak through from time to time.

If you (or anyone else reading this thread) spots any more, we could do with the following information to help us to track them down:

  • What ad was it ? A click-through link will help us block the advertiser there and then. That's the one you get after you click on the advert - you can turn off data/wifi and the link will still load but it'll block the webpage results
  • Which device were you on? IOS/Android, Tablet or Mobile

Thanks again.

Corsoydl mouthwash ad just blared out music despite my volume being muted, really annoying at 5am when I’m trying to silently scroll in bed! I’m in iOS 17.4.1

@FusionChefGeoff agh, that sounds annoying. Can you remember which thread you were reading when that ad cropped up? If you see it again, could you possibly click the advert and share the URL that it takes you to? That'll help us to track it down. Thank you.
