MNHQ asking posters to read all OP’s posts

EmpressaurusOfCats · 15/12/2023 00:20

This thread has a note in bold from HQ at the end of the first post, asking people to read all the OP’s posts before replying. This is a great idea. Is it available on request?

I've never seen that before, so I would also be interested to know the answer.

ChoupetteTheCat · 15/12/2023 08:30

I've not seen it before either.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 15/12/2023 08:37

It's a teeny bit cheeky to get this message put on. Completely understandable -I'm guessing that the OP is getting fed up with a million ill-informed replies getting in the way of useful content. But it is really just telling posters not to be dicks, which should go without saying (or should be a warning equally prominent everywhereGrin)

JoMumsnet · 15/12/2023 10:07

Hi @EmpressaurusOfCats

We occasionally put messages like this at the foot of an opening post if we're getting a lot of reports about a thread and can see that the OP's getting a hard time from people who may not have read a significant update.

Now that we have a 'See All' function available on all platforms, it's easy enough to click on the tab and see all posts by the OP, even if you don't have time to read the whole thread.

If this is happening on a thread you've started, just hit the report button and let us know - if we think an HQ note in the opening post is needed, we'll add one Smile

How do you do it on a mobile without having to scroll the entire thread please, and I assume the op would put all relevant in the op and not drip feed

Seeline · 15/12/2023 10:16

@WandaWonder If you use the mobile site (rather than a useless app) you just hit the 'see all' button. I have my account set up to have all posts by OP in a different colour too so they are easy to spot within the thread.

You click on the button marked "see all" on the bottom right hand corner of the OP.

Drip feeds can be annoying, but often the OP didn't realise that something might be relevant, or that she should have specified why she couldn't do the bleeding obvious (cancelled the cheque) or most often, as in this case that events have occurred and things have changed.

The most notorious example was the OP who was still getting advice on low carb diets to deal with her bloated stomach well after she'd updated that she was being investigated for ovarian cancer.

MoreThanJustANumber · 15/12/2023 10:30

On the app you slide the OPs post to the left and there's a filter option which will show all OPs posts.

On the tablet app the filter icon is in the top right corner, it's really easy to use.

Anyway, I think it's a very good idea to remind people to read at least the OPs posts even if they CBA to RTFT. I find people whingeing about 'drip feeding' if a poster clarifies or answers questions very annoying, it's usually just an excuse for them lazily wading in without bothering to read properly.

It is pretty unrealistic to think that if a thread’s been going for 200 posts, there’s no chance that anything might have changed or developed since the OP. Or to not consider that half a dozen other people might have made the same suggestion as you & the OP might have already explained why it’s not viable.

I must have a different app. I don't have any of this 🤔

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 15/12/2023 21:20

I'm so confused. My app is up to date

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel The IOS and android apps are very different. The android one does very little. That's why I always use the mobile site.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 15/12/2023 21:51

I see. I thought I was missing something. Thank you so much for clarification . I hate using browsers on phone.

RampantIvy · 15/12/2023 22:03

Gosh, I remember that one. The poster subsequently died. It was so sad.

I don't use the app on my phone. I use the mobile site. IMO the apps should have the same functionality as the mobile site.

I also get very irritated by posts from posters who haven't bothered to read the OP's updates. I had no idea you could ask MNHQ to add the sentence at the bottom. Can only the OP request this @JoMumsnet?

JoMumsnet · 16/12/2023 21:13

Not at all, @RampantIvy - we often get reports from other posters about sensitive threads where it's quite crucial that people see the OP's latest updates before responding.

In cases like that, it makes more sense for us to put a note at the bottom of the opening post rather than a MNHQ post at the end of the thread, which is more likely to be missed. Just report any thread you're concerned about and we'll happily take a closer look.

RampantIvy · 16/12/2023 21:49

Thank you @JoMumsnet
