Can you clarify about reporting of threads please? Reporter is named?

Following on from this morning can you clarify what happens when someone reports a thread?

I don't mean the bit where you look at it and decide. I mean when you report a thread - I would have imagined it was confidential and that any discussion with the poster reported would be along the lines of "your post was reported to us." but not the person reporting named. This is obviously not the case as someone was told today that I reported a thread. This person then took it to the thread and repeated this . I would have thought that this was confidential and I am sure that I was not the only one who thought this. It certainly does not encourage people to report threads, does it?

I did e mail you several times to find out about this but so far there has been no response so perhaps you can clarify here so that everyone knows the stance taken. Thanks.

I understood that the reporter would not be named to the person whose (who's?) post was reported, too!

Saucery · 12/12/2023 16:26

Sometimes the email to the reportee can contain the original report with the reporter’s name on it. That has happened in the past.

To be honest with you I don't care one jot that someone knows if I reported their post but I would still like to know the process for the future . @Saucery that might well be the case.
It does seem though gauche and childish for the reported person to then come back to the thread and draw attention to it so that everyone else can see. 🙄

That is a possibility @floorprotector. This is why I am asking for clarification of the process.

That should not happen in my opinion. I’m sure it would put many people off reporting

They have said on the previous occasions that processes would be altered to stop it happening but it’s happened to me twice. Not recently though, so maybe it is just a case of the person making a lucky guess when they came back to the thread this time.

Yeah, I'd say it's totally obvious too.

Hello @Gingerboy22 happy to clarify. We do not share details of who reported a post with anyone else. We are hugely appreciative of everyone who takes the time to report posts to us and we would not compromise their privacy.

We've had reports today about a post that was interpreted as suggesting otherwise - we looked into this and found no evidence.

We hope this answers your question but let us know if not.

Gingerboy22 · 12/12/2023 17:17

Ok thanks - that is useful and reassuring to know!

The poster was therefore insinuating when she said " I see that you have reported my post and I am discussing with Mods". Amusing considering the topic 😂
