We've talked about this before...name tags unusable

Hi MNHQ, I've mentioned before that on the website, the name tags can't be deleted if you make a mistake. You came back to us and said 'Sorry, it's actually quite tricky and we can't fix it.' That was fair enough.

However, you have introduced a checking process where they user can't post if a name tag doesn't exist, or is incorrect. For me (and I'm sure lots of others) that means that if I type a long response but make any error in the name tag, the whole post gets lost because it can't be edited and I can't post until it is corrected.

Can you at least revoke your name tag checker, if you can't allow the correction of name tags?

Hi there @Lougle. We'll have a look at this now. Just so we're clear, can we ask if you're on the site or the app. And would be good to know what device and browser (if applicable) you're on too.

And are we right in summarising the problem as being that when you write a post if you type a username incorrectly using the '@' it doesn't autocorrect to the correct name but then also won't allow you to press 'go' on the post? And does the entire message then vanish or are you able to go in and remove the username and then post? We just want to be sure we're looking at the right issue. If you can send us a screenshot that illustrates the problem any further that would be really great, too.

Sorry for further faff. Just want to make sure we're on the same page!

@HebeMumsnet I'm not the op but on chrome browser on android phone I can't delete a name tag once it's in, and can't edit a name tag, so if it's wrong it means refreshing page and retyping my entire message.

I haven't come across this so am going to deliberately mistype to see what happens?

I am using a chrome browser on a Samsung android so it's not a universal problem but must be to do with a specific combination of phone and browser.

I'm on a Huawei P30 Pro, using Chrome browser, using the website.

This is an example screenshot.

The issue is:

1. If I press the @ button then type a tag, I can't edit or delete the tag in the post.
2. If I press the @ button and mistype the tag, when I try to post, I can't post and get an error message.
3. The only solution is to copy the entire post and refresh the screen, then paste it (doing this temporarily makes the site forget that @ followed by text is a user tag), delete the mistype and retype the user tag.

So to show an example on this thread @HebeMumsnet , I can't edit your username tag.

But if I cut and paste or copy and paste, your tag forgets it's a tag.

Then I can change it to a tag again.
