Can we please have… re deleted threads

Hi, I’m dying- dying of frustration and curiosity. I was tagged or replied to in a thread that’s now been deleted. Could we- ideally- see posts we’re tagged in even if the whole thread was deleted, or worst case- not get the notification of the thread has been deleted?

Hi OP

Thanks for the suggestion - we'll have a discussion about it and get back to you.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 30/11/2023 16:06

I agree. It's really annoying to see that someone has replied to you but to be unable to see that reply because the whole thread has been zapped!

JoMumsnet · 01/12/2023 11:19

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves - we do understand that this must be quite frustrating. If you're desperate to know what's been said to you on a specific thread we may be able to help if you mail us at [email protected]. Obviously we won't have time to do this for EVERYONE, so let's keep this just between us, eh? Wink But if you're literally dying of curiosity, like @pickledandpuzzled we'll do our best to help.

I'd like to again, ask for more meaningful deletion messages. Some MNHQ people are good at this.

Some are not - last week a thread that seemed innocuous to me, was deleted with the message 'breaking Talk Guidelines'.

It seemed as if this referred to the OP itself & not just lots of deleted replies, but I'll never know!

JoMumsnet · 01/12/2023 12:37

Thanks for raising this @EarringsandLipstick - we do always try to give full deletion messages, but in the cases of trolls who've started multiple threads we sometimes hit the mass delete button to remove them all in one go as quickly as possible. This is when the generic 'Deleted for breaking Talk Guidelines' message would appear.

We'll do our best to go back in and add more meaningful messages when time allows - we can see it's a bit frustrating otherwise. If there's a particular thread you'd like to know more about, just mail us at [email protected] and we'll see if we can help.

That makes sense, but in those cases of mass deletion, couldn’t you put “deleted because the poster is breaking talk guidelines”? That way we’d know it was a problem with a troll poster, not an issue with the individual thread.

JoMumsnet · 01/12/2023 13:20

Hi @FictionalCharacter - yes, that's certainly possible. We do sometimes edit the deletion message so it says: 'Deleted for breaking Talk Guidelines - previously banned poster', where applicable.

We'll try to ensure all deletion messages are a bit more comprehensive. Thanks again for your suggestions.
