Also I find the one named ‘after school activities are essential for a child’s development’ really poor taste.

There are families using food banks and worrying about providing for their children and an add for a bloody stage school is saying that it’s detrimental to development not to do them.

Course they’re beneficial but the ‘essential’ and the fact it’s an ad piss me off.

Ad blocker is literally the only way I've found to get rid of them as that's essentially what they are adverts.

bellac11 · 16/11/2023 10:20

Ok, I see whats happened here. I have a new laptop and I havent put the adblocker on that I had on the old one yet. I thought it was a bit odd that tons of them suddenly started appearing the other night. Trying to wade through decent threads with tons of that clogging up the feed is very annoying.

Also Im so dim I didnt even realise they were adverts as such!!!

Not dim at all. They are really fucking annoying thought as they are designed to look like threads, it's very annoying to then notice they are actually a promoted thread aka advert in disguise.

EvenBetta · 16/11/2023 10:25

Their titles irritate me, they're so cringey, and rammed down our throats hidden among actual thread titles.
I don't have ad blockers but just quickly see the thread reply number to check if it's a genuine thread and not an advert.

Thats exactly it, I thought they were threads about new appliances or helpful hints or something (havent actually opened any of them)!!!

I don’t actually object to them per se. As a marketer I get that ads generate revenue to fund the site. But I do think the ratio of them vs normal threads is a bit high and the content isn’t always appropriate.

I think that’s fair.

I thought adblockers didn't work on MN anymore.

I'm plagued with ads these days.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/11/2023 10:33

There’s one about Christmas doormats that particularly amuses me.
could be taken in two ways, a not really needed piece of Christmas themed tat or something that could be a juicy AIBU about family boundaries during the festive season!

I noticed on my old laptop that suddenly ads appeared down the side, but on this one that Ive only just set up, the ads are massive along the top and also these threads (ads), so I suspect some ads are blocked but not all of them

A lot of them disappear if you reject all permissions for cookies and tracking, or that's what I found anyway. I don't use adblocker but do choose 'reject all' every time the (annoying) pop up appears to ask me to reconsider and that seems to keep them down..

LilyMumsnet · 16/11/2023 11:01

Hi all

Just to say, we don't offer a way to hide these - advertising is how we keep the lights on. However, your feedback regarding the content of the ads is really useful, and we'll discuss it in the office.
