Scam advert

There is an advert on here which takes you to something that looks like an Amazon page but isn't, and gets you to answer questions in hope of winning an iPad Pro.

I have googled this and it is a scam.

Please vet your adverts!

Hi OP

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Like most websites, we have safeguards in place to protect users from Malicious and scam ads. Sadly they can occasionally manage to get through our safety nets.

Whilst we work on a more direct approach for users reporting suspicious ads, can we please ask that if you see the advert again, you take a screenshot of it? A URL to where the advert takes you would also be really helpful, as having the link means that we can block instantly. You can email this over to [email protected].

Unfortunately, it happens. I have my own small forum and pay extra to choose the ads by hand to avoid something like this, however my forum is tiny, not absolutely giant like mumsnet.

I only clicked it by accident as they are quite hard to avoid when scrolling by phone

Thank you @Aria999 . That's really helpful.

HebeMumsnet · 08/11/2023 12:09

Hi again @Aria999 . We've been able to block the url for that ad so it shouldn't pop up again but please do shout if you have any further problems with it or anything like it.

Hi OP

Thanks so much for the links - we'll work on getting those blocked now. Flowers

Aria999 · 08/11/2023 22:10

I am starting to think it has some kind of code that slightly alters the link each time to avoid a simple block.

They are most certainly capable of being sneaky - often using different keywords to sneak past. They should be gone now. We know it's a pain but if you see anymore, please do send the link over and we can get them quickly blocked too.

@Aria999 Can we ask if you're seeing these on our app or on the main website? And if on the website which browser are you using? Thanks! Flowers

Aria999 · 13/11/2023 12:46

App, English

I am located in USA in case that makes a difference

Thanks OP.
We're investigating this but in the meantime, it's really handy to have the links to block them directly.

It also temporarily goes through an intermediate link that's something like track-us/bidease.com but it's only there for a second so I can't get a good look at it
