What's the difference? 🤔

Can Mumsnet please explain the difference between these two threads?

'The most ridiculous thing your DSC mother has ever said/done'...

'Worst mother in law comment...go on join me in my misery'...

Because one was deleted stating you didn't believe the poster had good intentions 🤔
Yet the other one stands??? Who makes the decisions, as the theme and context is exactly the same in both...

For context I enjoyed both and don't believe either should be deleted.

Yes... I'm wondering this.

Yes... I'm wondering this.

I'm normally a wall flower on here but this has really annoyed me...I think it's the obvious hypocrisy and double standards.

Well... perhaps one of them turned out to be a previously banned poster?

If that was true, they would have said in the deletion message as they always have before.
They have only stated 'they don't think the poster had the best intentions.'
Which brings back the original question: What's the difference?

It was just a suggestion - I haven't read either thread.

Maybe nothing more than which staff member read the reports. There's guidance, but they're still individuals making decisions.

ImustLearn2Cook · 29/10/2023 00:09

Maybe only one of the threads was reported. And perhaps the one that got deleted may have received numerous reports from people who were offended.

I haven’t read either threads. But you have peaked my interest with the MIL one.

I don’t think Mumsnet trawls through all the threads to moderate them. They rely on people reporting threads.

MinnieL · 29/10/2023 00:13

If no one’s reported the MIL thread then why would it be deleted?

MichonnesBBF · 29/10/2023 00:26

Fair points...
I do think however that if this type of thread breaks the rules then there would have been plenty of reporting on both...if they don't break any rules then why the deletion in the first place? Just because someone complained doesn't make them right...
I would just like some clarification.

If one or both was started by a PBP, (or troll) AND the threads were reported, then that's why they would be deleted.

If either of the threads wasn't reported, even if it was started by a PBP (or troll), then it wouldn't be deleted, as MNHQ wouldn't have seen it.

HebeMumsnet · 30/10/2023 12:05

Hi there @MichonnesBBF . As other posters have said, if it was deleted due to concern the OP did not have good intentions then it will be less to do with the threads themselves and more to do with something we could see regarding the OP. And yes, it's also possible the second thread simply wasn't reported to us.

If you have concerns about that one do hit the report button and we'll take a look. But to clarify, decisions to remove threads aren't usually as simple as a vaule judgement on the subject matter, so it's not often possible to draw a comparison like this between two threads. Hope that explains it a bit, but do drop us a line if not and we'd be happy to look into it further for you.

No concerns about the second thread at all, I was enjoying both equally, as they were pretty much exactly the same...
