Just seen the post on LinkedIn about Mumsnet and AI here

What does that mean for us as users of the site?

OP posts:

As long as it’s identified as being a bot it should be fine

BIWI · 05/09/2023 00:11

But I'm not really sure it is about bots, hence asking.

We are the product.

BIWI · 05/09/2023 00:53

Well yes, I'm well aware of that!

Hey there, for those of us not on linked in could someone summarise, pls?

Annaishere · 05/09/2023 01:07

It’s ChatGPT

I posted a link to the article - doesn't it work?

That will be fun to read! Especially the horrible advice on certain topics 😁.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 05/09/2023 07:49

Thank you for the link. Interesting to see how this unfolds.

hopeishere · 05/09/2023 08:03

Interesting. I've reported a few post recently that we're obviously written by AI.

BBno4 · 05/09/2023 08:13

I have seen replies that are defo chat bot but not threads.

I think it was on a thread about exercise.

thdskdrggs · 05/09/2023 08:55

I'd like to see the DPIA for that. What if people ask about certain users, celebrities or people in the media?

inadarkwood · 05/09/2023 09:54

BIWI · 05/09/2023 00:53

Well yes, I'm well aware of that!

You asked about what it means for us. It seems to be about mining us, as resources, and selling what it compiles. This stood out:

"MumsGPT is poised to revolutionize the way advertisers harness data for their marketing campaigns. With access to a treasure trove of threads spanning Mumsnet’s 10 million users over the past twenty years, this AI marvel is set to transform the landscape of consumer engagement. The insights it gleans from this extensive dataset promise to guide policymakers on matters of parenting and empower advertisers to craft finely honed marketing strategies."

Creepy!

Thanks @inadarkwood - I did read the article! I'm interested to hear from MNHQ on this one though - so they spell out to us, their content providers, how they're going to use it.

I am a bit literal!

The thread where somebody asked for advice on squats and donkey kicks, and one of the responses was "It's great that you've added squats and donkey kicks to your workout routine! Here's a summarised reply with some tips!"? 🤣🤣🤣

JustineMumsnet · 05/09/2023 11:31

Hiya Biwi,
I don't think there are real any implications for individual users as we don't plan to use MumsGPT to generate responses on site and all the outputs are anonymised. It's more for providing useful insights to brands/ policy makers. We've had a Mumsnet Insight business for years whereby we try to help orgs understand what their customers' pain points are. GPT has made it much easier to analyse and summarise Mumsnet conversations (because its processing power is so immense) is all.

Sounds like a bit response!

What is a pain point?

JaneJeffer · 05/09/2023 12:58
