What happens if a poster seems genuinely in need of help but other posters with agendas try to hijack the thread? I'm thinking of the 21 year old pregnant to the "aggressive dark" man which seems to have been colonised by pro lifers then deleted. Does anyone keep in touch with her? Does she get to read the pages of sensible advice offered to her? Or am I incredibly naive and it was all fiction.

Hi OP

Do you remember the title of this thread?

FightingFate · 31/08/2023 10:18

I saw that, didn’t know it had been deleted. If it’s true, she’d be making a huge mistake to continue the pregnancy but I think it was likely a work of fiction.

@LilyMumsnet It was in AIBU and was something like "to tell the father of my unborn child that I'm pregnant even though he's blocked me on everything." As I said, it could all have been fiction....

Where we have no reason to doubt the OP, we will always do what we can behind the scenes to offer support. That being said, we had suspicions about this one. In instances where we believe someone is posting to troll, we wouldn't contact them in this way.

@LilyMumsnet Thank you. God, some people need to get lives. But I can stop worrying.

Well, I was surprised people were appearing to believe it,
Only Mumsnet HQ can check behind the scenes but that is the type of thread that would scream troll to me. That's why you have to report threads that you are unsure of.

The trouble with troll 'I'm young and pregnant by a loser threads' is that they are designed to get Mumsnetters frothing! As can be seen by that thread. I suspect a lot of posters only comment on it for entertainment and are fully aware that it's a troll but it could still cause some people to be upset.

What I don't understand is why it takes so long to get troll threads like that deleted. They are often started on Friday night when Mumsnet HQ have left for the weekend.

@Maltaw I actually did briefly wonder. But I always get carried away by thinking "What if someone was telling my daughter that this aggressive dark man who had already treated her like shit might turn out to be the perfect father if she only gave him the chance."

Oh well, lesson learned (probably not!)
