PMs about night time nappies

BertieBotts · 02/08/2023 10:36

I've noticed that I keep getting PMs from posters asking about night time nappies presumably relating to a thread I've posted on at some point in the past. It's not that regular but it's happened about three or four times in the last six months. More PMs about that than any other subject except for car seats (which I'm known for posting about so that seems fair).

I don't know why but I'm getting a bit of a weird feeling about this. Has anyone else had the same thing? I'm just wondering if there are people going around looking for old nappy threads and PMing everyone so that it's not an obvious pattern.

Would you maybe be able to look into my PM history and check this?

I've no idea how I would search for my own comments on threads with the new search so could I also ask if you (HQ) have the option, to remove any of my old posts relating to night time nappies please?

In fact since the most recent one all the others seem to have mysteriously disappeared Hmm

Is it the same poster asking the same question/s or different posters asking different questions?

DappledThings · 07/08/2023 09:53

I got one yesterday and I never get PMs at all so it was a bit odd. If I can be arsed I'll go back and see where I've commented about nappies and see if that poster is on the same thread but yes, definitely something unusual.

Not that I have anything to say about them anyway. Never found any difference between any brand I've used!

Hi @BertieBotts . Apologies - we seem to have missed this post from you. We can definitely look into the PMs for you. Could you hit the report button on your post above though? That will mean we can start a private conversation with you in our reports system, which might be better than us rifling through your PMs here where everyone can see.

Thanks! And we'll talk to you on 'the other side'!

I’ve just noticed a DM about night nappies and I know it’s a pervert because a) I have not been posting about nappies at all and b) I know for a FACT it’s a common theme for fetishists on Mumsnet. Gross. Ain’t falling for it.

That is the exact PM that I got just the other day. Same wording.

It's different names, but I don't know if it's the same message I've had previously, because it has since mysteriously disappeared. It's always asking for brand recommendations, so the same kind of question but I can't remember what the wording was in the older one(s) - they never stand out as being anything obviously unusual, it was just the frequency that made me think wait a minute...

Or I'm getting confused, because I also remember one of the night nappy threads getting bumped ages after I'd posted on it and it making me feel a bit weird at the time, but then I just hid it from my threads I'm on and decided not to post on threads like that in future. It could have just been someone coming from "suggested threads" maybe.

@HebeMumsnet I'll do that now.

Yep, same one word-for-word I got too.

Jellycats4life · 07/08/2023 23:02

The key topics for night nappy pervs are:

Older children (never babies)
Leaking nappies

I mean who’s going in to change the nappy of a four year old twice during the night? 🤢 Blatant perv. They don’t want product recommendations, they want you to share stories of leaking nappies for them to wank over.

BertieBotts · 07/08/2023 23:32

Yeah I realise that now :D I just meant that's what the messages generally seem to come up with. I guess I never really thought much about the practicalities of it. But yes you're right - they are always implausibly heavy wetters and there is always some kind of weird detail.

Oh god don’t say “heavy wetter”, it’ll only turn them on more 🤪

Hi again @BertieBotts - we've just replied to your report about this, confirming that we've banned this poster by now. It was a returning troll, and we're so sorry that they managed to send out all of these dodgy PMs. We've deleted all of their posts on the site by now and will be removing all of the PMs they sent.

Sorry to everyone else who received one of these messages. Please always report any posts or PMs that concern you - the sooner we know about them, the sooner we can get rid...
