* formatting in HE board

A huge number of threads in Higher Education (and other university-related discussions) have posters trying to talk about A-star grades at A-level. The asterisk symbol starts/stops bold instead, and messages get garbled quickly. Would it be possible for the specific string "A*" to be ignored by the formatting?

Hi OP

Thanks for flagging this.
Are you able to share a screenshot with us?

PhotoDad · 27/07/2023 10:08

Thanks, @LilyMumsnet, this was the one that finally prompted me to post here. It's been happening for years and the regulars on the board know to type "A-star" but it can be confusing to newcomers (especially with Results Day coming up).

Thanks OP!

We're looking into it now. Flowers

+1 to this if it's not a headache to make the change. Those of us who post on there too much regularly know to avoid the asterisk, but as PhotoDad says it tends to catch out newcomers, and it makes loads of posts quite difficult to read.
