Being diverted to 'The Fry Group' in threads

It's happened twice now, am reading a thread (last one was Husband so mean when I'm ill in Active) and a new page suddenly opens to 'The Fry Group' and is then difficult to close/get back from. I'm on the mobile site on an iPhone if that's helpful at all, didn't get a screenshot but will take one if it happens again.

Same here. Can barely use MN.

Same for me

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 26/07/2023 09:09

Thanks for reporting this to us we're investigating now. Could you please let us know if you're clicking on an ad when this happens or whether it's automatically redirecting? Thank you.

HerAvatar · 26/07/2023 09:35

No clicking on ads, happily reading a thread and it just suddenly diverts to an entirely new page for the company mentioned.

Just happened again on this thread!

Getting the same with something called Lex

MandyMotherOfBrian · 26/07/2023 09:51

And the same here but with a link to an obvious scam Amazon ‘free stuff’ page. Not clicking on an AD just when scrolling up. Can’t then be closed by going ‘back’, have to close MN and start again

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 26/07/2023 09:52

Thanks, everyone. If anyone is able to get a screen recording of this happening, that would be really useful in helping us figure out the cause.

Apologies for the annoyance - we'll do our best to get this sorted ASAP.

CatchItDerry · 26/07/2023 13:41

It just happens randomly, no warning.
milk try to screen record, but nothing obvious happens apart from a new page loading.

I have a video but can’t share it here.
@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet is there an email I can send it to?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 26/07/2023 15:23

Thank you so much @CatchItDerry please send it to [email protected]

Still happening for me today!

LilyMumsnet · 27/07/2023 10:34

Hi all

Please could we ask that you try clearing your mumsnet cookies? We think this may solve the issue but please let us know.

HerAvatar · 27/07/2023 11:09

I did clear mine yesterday and it did seem to stop but has started again today. Will clear again and see what happens.

This is happening to me too. Random threads, not clicking any links. Being redirected to Lex Group.

Hello, can we check to see if you have tried clearing your Mumsnet cookies?

HerAvatar · 27/07/2023 12:39

Cleared mine an hour ago and it's just happened again so doesn't look like that's the fix, sorry LilyMumsnet!

I’m getting both Lex and Fry Group redirection, even after clearing browsing data. Very annoying!

GodspeedJune · 27/07/2023 12:47

Happening for me too.

HerAvatar · 27/07/2023 12:58

And again, it's every other bloody thread now, making the site unusable for me Angry

Yeah, cleared the cache & it’s still happening, if not at a shorter page load:redirect interval than yesterday.

iPhone via Safari, on iOS 16.5.1 (20F75).

Clearing the cache on an iPhone is a ball ache as you can’t select a particular cache on one website to clear. So clearing the cache for Mumsnet’s redirect issue has meant a whole host of useful cached info that I use all the time being scrapped too.

Having been an Apple Dev, SysAdmin or your developer team need to look at all and any third party APIs you’re using (probably for pulling targeted Ads down) to see if the libraries have been changed, or 3rd party content, and go through each library to find out where this little bugger has come from.

And then if it’s lurking there, implement a more robust vetting & surveillance protocol for the use of 3rd party libraries, content & .APIs as this is just basic, sloppy security.

Hello and thanks for the screenshots - they were super helpful. We just want to let you know that we’ve identified the cause and are working on blocking it PDQ.
Best wishes,
MNHQ

PriamFarrl · 27/07/2023 17:45

I’ve just had it a couple of times. The first time it happened I assumed I clicked a link by mistake.
