I can’t get rid of dark mode

Im on an iPhone and the web version (not the mn app)

Right then, if you click on the head icon at the right of the blue bar at the top of the screen, you'll see a drop down menu with the Dark mode option at the bottom. Tap on that and you'll be able to select Light mode, then hit Save Changes.

yes I’ve tried that a few times… it doesn’t save for me, so even though I switch to ‘light’ the save doesn’t work 😐

Oh that's odd. Rather than this being a site issue, is there a chance you've inverted the display on your iPhone? On mine, if I tap the home key quickly 3 times it inverts the colours so the display goes into dark mode. Could that be what's happened?

NB my iPhone's pretty ancient, so newer versions may have different short-cut options...

No idea… nothing I try seems to work. It’s just the MN site, my phone is on light mode for everything else.

I intentionally switched to dark to see if I liked it - really hate it, so tried to switch back and now I’m stuck 😕

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I’m having the exact same problem. I’ve followed all the steps on here and the link, but nothing is working.

I’m accessing the mobile site via an iPhone (iPhone is in light mode).

Please help me get rid of dark mode @mnhq!

Hi there @Chocochoo. Sorry if it sounds like a daft question but just to eliminate it as a possibility, did you definitely press 'save' after switching to Light Mode on the toggles page?

And have you tried switching your iPhone settings to Dark and then back to Light again?

The save changes button isn’t working on the toggles page. So I can select light or system default as an option but the “save changes” button doesn’t seem to have a hyperlink attached. When I changed MN onto dark mode I did it directly from the drop down menu at top right of page, but that also isn’t working to get me back to light mode.

Have tried playing with iPhone settings but nothing is working 😕

@Chocochoo if you're still stuck on dark mode, please can you let us know which model iPhone you're using? We're trying to work out why this isn't working for you.

Hi there @Chocochoo. We've not been able to replicate this problem, nor have we seen it crop up for other users so we don't have much to go on.

Unfortunately, we aren't able to simply change this for you ourselves as the option is tracked on your device rather than through your Mumsnet account. It might be worth trying again with the toggle in the dropdown menu and perhaps zooming in and out to see if that makes tapping on 'dark mode' to toggle between the modes easier.

If not, clearing your cookies and cache would reset the value, but will also log you out so just make sure you know your Mumsnet password before you do that.

Thanks @HebeMumsnet what you said about zooming in prompted me to have a look at settings. I actually usually have font size set at 125% on my browser, so I put this back to 100% and was able to go back to light mode with no problems - the hyperlink on “save changes” worked straight away. Thanks for your help!
