Organising multiple threads on same subject

Occasionally, something comes up which prompts people to create numerous threads about the same thing across various topics. Currently, it seems to be Taylor Swift.

What about creating single mega threads which are pinned at the top of Chat and moving any new threads into that one? It might save people creating the millionth new thread asking a random question about Taylor Swift tickets, collate all info in one place and prevent same subject threads appearing all over the place.

This would also work for other subjects which crop up in the news and provoke a flurry of threads about the same thing. Once interest in the subject wanes, the mega thread can be moved to the relevant topic.

Something very similar has already been established in S&B on the ‘what are you wearing’ and Paris chic threads although that’s driven by posters rather than by MNHQ.

Any thoughts, @mnhq?

Thanks for your suggestion, @Pringleface - we'll have a discussion about this.

couldn't the taylor swift type just go in the music topic?

AutumnCrow · 25/07/2023 16:21

And the 'would you fly to Rhodes?' type threads. They are in multiple topics - some of the key advice is getting lost in the sheer volume of threads.

This is what I mean. I’m not suggesting that MN should be relied on as a source of verified information, but there is useful information there which might save other people posting a new thread.

@Samcro Yes, probably, but in my experience, MN is very reluctant to move threads to the appropriate topics so megathreads seem like a potential compromise.

i wish they would move the barbie ones, countless threads about should I take my small child to see it.

Yes, I have noticed the proliferation of those, too.
