Threads showing on active

Hi all!

There have been quite a few suggestions in diacussions on childfree topic that it might be better if threads don't show in active. Most of us don't always check what topic is the thread we click on in active and considering some issues around childfree etc, it might be better just not shown.

Would that be ok? Can of course put it to vote on the topic

Surely the same point could be said about a lot of the sections which appear in active.

I think there is a valid argument for considering excluding it, as is done with the SN topics (and some other too IIRC). It’s not a bord I frequent but I can imagine it coming up in active could sometimes lead to similar problems to those that are experienced when the SN topics are visible in active.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 04/07/2023 14:38

Hi @Cakesandbabes thanks for your suggestion. We try and avoid taking whole topics out of Active where we can - we want people to find areas of the board that are interesting to them and as a fairly new area of the site it would be an advantage to make people aware it exists.

What is the thinking behind taking it out? Do remember that you can report posts to us if you think they're breaking guidelines.

Hi YetAnotherBecky.

Various reasons mainly that as people don't sometimes realise what topic it is they bump in with their "bundles of joy" including thread such as childfree not by choice.... Which is just not nice, but of courae doesn't break guidlines. Appreciate you deleting the repirted post on another thread from poater who actually went to moan about childfree back to AIBU.

There has been a murmur last few days, some posters were/are actively arguing.

Considering how controversial childfree/childless people seem to be, it might be good. But yes, it may affect people finding it.

I can pop thread in there to ask everyone to vote if that helps. Collective agreement or it can stay in active

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet Does it break talk guidelines to post things like "why are you on a PARENTING FORUM" and "childless people are so angry and bitter" on the Childfree Mumsnetters board? I assume it doesn't which is why I haven't bothered reporting. It's those types of posts that are leading us (posters on the childfree board) to wish the threads didn't show in Active.

HebeMumsnet · 05/07/2023 09:31

Hi there @ItsNotRocketSalad . It's definitely worth reporting those sorts of posts. If it looks like someone is being deliberately inflammatory, we'd see that as reason to take it down, particularly if they're continuing having been asked politely to desist, or doing this sort of thing repeatedly. We can also post on those threads ourselves, if that helps, to point out that Mumsnet is a forum for everyone. Do just drop us a line where you see this sort of thing and we can take it from there.

We'd much rather tackle that sort of posting at source than take a board out of active, particularly such a new board, as it means fewer people will happen across it and it may simply fizzle out, which would be a real shame.

Hi Becky.
We have voted for staying in active, but there are aome suggestions as well on the thread (in the child free section)
