There are zillions of festivals and quite a few parents who like taking their kids to festivals. It's always good to swap tips, recommendations etc on these things.

Please??

I'll put it to the team at next meeting, but think this sort of thing is best discussed on talk, tbh.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 25/02/2008 11:56

Oh oh oh!! Me me me!

Thinking of Bestival in September.

Im normally a V Festival girl, but really want to do a festival with the kids and I dont think v is a safe place for kids.

Radio 1s big weekend is in Maidstone this year so would like to take my older dd to this as its fairly localish.

What about you filthyminded?

I'd quite like to know what family friendly festivals are about. I would go to our local one (in Cumbria) called Solfest, which incidentally was the winner of the family friendly festival 2007 award. I've never been despite only being 30 mins away and this year i'm abroad so can't make it, but would really like to go to an alternative. If anyone can recommend any more northern ones?

filthymindedvixen · 25/02/2008 13:36

oh Discodizzy, we're going to Solfest for the first time this year!
We normally go to Beautiful Days (in exeter, organised by The Levellers) but DH is rebelling at the 7 and a half hour drive this year...

There is a clutch of small festivals this year at a fabulous farm near us in (in North Yorks) including the Northern green Gathering and the Northern Didgeridoo festival so we may go just out of curiosity as they are only about 30 mins away so easy to escape if they are grim!

Anyone else been to Solfest?

Would love to go to Larmar Tree but again, it is very far and we are quite skint this year

I'm with FMV, I think this would be worthy of a topic in its own right - there are so many festival threads over the summer months!

(Hiya FMV!) No festis long weekend festis for us this year, I dont think, all efforts going into moving.

aDad · 25/02/2008 13:43

apologies for lack of sense in the last post! interrupted by small child

filthymindedvixen · 25/02/2008 13:45

yes, talk moves too fast and it would be just a place where you know you could ask: ''anyone been to such-and-such festy'' or even ''fancy a pint meet-up at...''

And i could post my patented wheelbarrow tip again and every will be dead impressed

FMV - Supergrass are headlining solfest this year, read it just before on efestivals

MoreSpamThanGlam · 25/02/2008 15:56

Oooh I love Supergrass.

Has anyone been to Bestival - the website looks amazing!

We could also swap best family tents tips (say that when you have had a few!)

filthymindedvixen · 25/02/2008 16:51

Yay! I love Supergrass.
Though I was pisse doff last year we spent a fortune on Beautiful Days tickets only to find The Levellers - and most of the other bands at Beautiful Days - were on at Solfest the following weekend

MorePsam, nope, can't say it even now without unfortunate spoonerising.

Bestival looks great but they won't let us have our campervan with an awning.
