Mumsnet, seriously? Is your bar this low?

So, racist (on 2 t shirts) and erroneously advertising being lesbian, gay or bisexual as a 'gender'.
Do you do ethical consumer checks on ANYONE you allow to advertise on your site?

Hi there @trythisforsize. Thanks for getting in touch. Many of our ads are generated without us 'agreeing' them, if you see what we mean and that will certainly be the case here. We do have rigorous checks and blocks in place but unfortunately bad players do occasionally slip through. With websites like these where there are 'custom creations' it's very difficult for us to block every one of the custom creations they're advertising.

We're doing out best though. If you spot something like this again, please do send us a screengrab and the url of the page you were on when you saw it.

trythisforsize · 19/06/2023 10:21

Could you possibly update your policy so that people selling 'custom creations' cannot advertise with you given that it can create offensive and hateful material to be shown on your pages? Also, Temu is extremely dubious with the way that they are sucking in children with copious amounts free gifts (often plastic gangster related toys like pretend penknives and balaclavas) and then they start advertising sex aids to them. All very suspect and perhaps Mumsnet should lead the way with cleaning this kind of consumer content off it's site?

Yes. You don’t need to post so aggressively Op

Well I find this kind of advertising very aggressive and it gets my hackles up. Does no-one care about this kind of thing anymore?

You could just have emailed. Or posted on a more reasoned manner. Contain your anger.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 19/06/2023 10:52

Not really seeing any ‘anger’.
I agree OP, though I imagine it’s a bit like whack a mole. Like the sexually explicit Anime ad from a couple of days ago…

Have you anything to say on the actual topic, or are you just trying to police OP's tone?

OP those t-shirts are shocking, so tone deaf and offensive.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 19/06/2023 17:20

Hello @trythisforsize thanks for your patience. We've blocked this ad now and are taking a look at the Temu ones.

trythisforsize · 19/06/2023 18:38

Thank you so much for the update @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

I'm really glad mumsnet have responded to these horrible adverts so quickly. Temu are extremely dubious!

The Temu ones are awful - strange penis shaped toys in amongst ads for clothes and slippers and they're so pervasive as well. I've been trying to block them for ages but they keep popping back.

Well I don't like the tone of your posts either. What do you make of that?

knittingaddict · 21/06/2023 15:11

Does anyone get ads purely in, what looks like, Russian? Had it a week or so ago and just now. Seems a strange choice.
